I see Tire Rack now has Avon Tech M500 tires in 235/50/17 (on back order) for $136. Anyone tried them?

they also have 215/55/17's, looking good to those that want the stock size.

reasonable price, well respected name (in Europe), 280 tread life, only 5 reviews so far. I am considering trying them.

But no i haven't heard from anyone that has tried them. I am trying to talk a friend of mine with a BMW Z3 to try em out for me.

LoL smart move...get ur friend to try them...if he crashes...then don't buy them...

 

If they are as decent as the Eagle GSD's then that's a good price for an alternative tire. More choices is always good.

Avon tires are not new. They were the standard tires on Rolls Royce for a long time, maybe still are. Avon has no performance pedigree, there are better tires around.

I have seen Avon slicks before but that only means they make slicks and maybe not good one. Avon is a question mark, unless someone here has experience with them and can tell us about it.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. will start manufacturing racing tires at its Athens, Ga., retread materials plant early next year.
Initial production will include the Avon Tech R, a street-legal radial built by Cooper exclusively for The Tire Rack, and a Mickey Thompson brand street tire.

"The plant will be configured to manufacture other racing products as needed to support the company´s overall motorsports strategy," say Cooper officials.

The facility´s conversion to racing tire manufacturing represents an $11 million investment.

"Demand for our motorsport tires in the United States has outpaced our ability to produce them at our United Kingdom factory," says Carl Casalbore, Cooper vice president of marketing and retail sales.

The Athens factory will receive support from Cooper´s technical centers in Findlay, Ohio, and Melksham, England.

"Racing tire expertise also will be provided by Cooper-Avon´s European racing team and Mickey Thompson´s staff based in the U.S. We are enthusiastic about the potential this additional manufacturing capacity gives us to grow our motorsports presence."

The M500 beat the AVS ES100 significantly in WET branking, LAP, and Slalom..........per TRack tests {?}.
