Re: HELP! Engine Failure!

Another UPDATE:

I received a call from the Sevice Mgr yesterday. He said that they will have to replace the long block, which is the short block and the heads. Apparantley the machine shop reported that the heads were damaged. So they ordered the long block and should have it on Monday. He said I might have my car back by Tuesday **fingers crossed**, but I won't get my hopes up.

I asked the SM if he wanted me to bring him the stock air intake. He said "Why, do you want the stock intake back on the car"? I said no, but I didn't think they would want to install the Injen CAI since it was not an Infiniti part. He said, "Well if we took the intake off, we can put it back on. It's just a bolt on part right"? I guess they don't think it will cause failure on my new engine, LOL.

Re: HELP! Engine Failure!

Yea, it was a Maxima. Insurance had to cover it. But that design of the intake scoop was poor IMHO. Even the G35 I am worried about.

Re: HELP! Engine Failure!

How low is it on the G35, it's pretty high up, where the filter is, right? I think most cars are in about the same area, maybe on a different side, but height wise I mean. I think basically you have to be careful with most cars and deep water.

Re: HELP! Engine Failure!

UPDATE:

I received another call from the Service Mgr yesterday. Apparently the long block did not arrive as planned. The ship date for the engine is October 22, but they are trying to get it earlier. If they get the long block by Wednesday I should have my car back by the end of the week. If not, then I will get my car sometime next week. Sounds like yet another delay which is par for the course thus far. At this point I will believe it when I see it. **Sigh**

Re: HELP! Engine Failure!

At least they gave you a loaner. Most other manufacturers would tell you tough $hit

Re: HELP! Engine Failure!

Add one more to the count:

My coworker just bought a brand new 04 G35. The odometer clocks in at a little over 500 miles and during the last rain we had in SoCal, the car died. He said the puddle he drove thru was as high as the lower door edge, so almost enough water to enter the cabin. After 20 mins, the car finally started again, but it runs with a horrible sound. From his description, it sounds like rod bearing failure. Anyways, he drove it to the dealer and they have no idea what went wrong. There was plenty of oil in the car as well. The car is bone stock and they have agreed to replace the whole engine. No hassles whatsoever. Turnaround time is expected to be 1 week.

My G35 has over 25K miles and no problems with my CAI. My concern is if these engines are really that good?

Re: HELP! Engine Failure!

Injesting water into your engine should be an insurance claim, not a warantee claim.

Wow, this has been quite the saga! It'll feel good for you to finally get your car back. I guess you'll need to go through the break-in process all over again after the re-build?

Re: HELP! Engine Failure!

I called today (Friday) and was told they are still working on it. They started on Tuesday, so they had four full days to work on it. How long should it take? Now they are telling me next Tuesday. Jeeeeeez.

Re: HELP! Engine Failure!

FINALLY! I got my car back today. After NINE weeks and countless phone calls my G has been repaired and now has a new engine. It sure feels good to be in MY car again. I was really tired of that crappy loaner. Now I just have to wait out the new break-in period...
