Should I buy a high mileage G35?
Should I buy a high mileage G35?
I'm about to buy a 2003 4dr G35. It's only had one owner and it looks nice and well cared for, but it has really high mileage. It's currently at 201,309 miles. So, a couple of questions:
Is that too much mileage for a G35 or can I expect to get another 100,000 out of it?
Is $5,700 too much to pay? What would you pay?
What problems can I expect to encounter in the next year or two?
Thanks for your help!

lol it will run as long as u keep fixing it
but if u can afford to fix it u may want to consider one with lower miles or if u can't maybe u are looking at the wrong type of car

I expect to drive a car to 200K miles, but I wouldn't spend $5700 on one that has that many miles to START with. For $5700, I'd look at early 2000's Maximas, TLs, etc that have barely 100K miles. The VQ motor could last forever, but at 200K miles for any car, you're looking at suspension components, steering components, exhaust, tires, brakes, etc--will add up pretty quickly....
If you do buy it you may have the highest mileage G on here. Personally, I wouldn't really ever buy a used car with over 100K miles on it. Just too many things will start going bad.
I would think it could quickly cost more than $5700 after a few years. I just bought an 06 G35 sedan with 30k miles for $18k. But like kvanil was saying, even some TL's and Maximas you can find for 100k miles reasonably priced as well. I almost got an 04 TL 6-speed for $14k with 70k miles. Bottom line, I wouldn't. If you do... don't throw down $5700.

What's the maintenance history on it? At 200k a lot of the suspension, steering and exhaust components, should have already been replaced... same with tires. I would ask for all maintenance history to make sure oil changes weren't skipped and to verify synthetic was used. Look for when plugs, water pump, coils, etc were changed.
If it's been meticulously maintained I would drop 5k on it for sure.

Still contemplating....
Thanks for all your responses. I talked with the dealer and I've got him down to $3000. Kelly Blue Book has it priced at $3,700 for trade in value in fair condition. This car is in good condition and I'm buying it from a Chevy Dealership. Is $3000 still too much for this car? I currently drive a Chevy SUV that has 230k on it....

P.S. KBB has it priced at $5,800 for Private Party value in fair condition and $9,800 suggested retail value. NADA has it's rough trade in value at $4,900 and Edmunds prices the trade in value at $4,881.
