Should I buy a high mileage G35?
where is said car. i would take it EASILY for $3k
$3k for a car you only use it as a beater. You dont plan to replace everything, live with the bumpers. just do the things it needs to run and be safe. brakes and etc. This is like buying a shell pretty much

Sure, but be ready for the VQ35 140k+ mile maintenance. It will probably need valve covers, gaskets, plugs, oil cooler seal, and various things that are very common problems at that age and mileage. Also be ready to check your oil every week or bi weekly at the latest since the DE uses about 1 quart per 1000 miles. That is why we are finding these cars for so cheap these days, nobody wants to do the maintenance when they get to this age and mileage. Dealership probably charges 2-3k for all the little things needed to be fixed but DIY cost is very cheap.
I bought mine with 132k miles, currently have 184k miles. Its needed very little. Radiator (crack in the filler neck), brake pedal sensor and LCA's. Uses a quart of oil every 4000-5000 miles, still has the original clutch. But I'm only the second owner. The original owner had all his services done at the dealership and they basically over serviced it. Need a coolant flush? Replace the hoses too. Brakes? Put new rotors on it too. He had all the service records and even the maintenance log was filled out.
You have a car with similar miles that's had 5-6 or more owners and it is probably a different story.

bought my dad's 05 g sedan, had 160k right now and runs like a champ. obviously drinks a little oil but not too bad, everything else is perfectly fine. I put z tube, k&n drop in, and 5/16 mani spacer and it's great. only way I would have bought that high mileage of a car is that I know my pops took meticulous care of the car and it was garaged its whole life.
mine has 160k and barely has any leakage in spark plug galleys or from the covers. I guess I'm lucky. one cam sensor replaced, that's it.
I purchased my G35 Sedan in 2017. It is a 2003 6MT Sport and I paid $3900. It had about 170K?
It was one of those 2nd owner cars that the owner always took to the dealership... I had my mechanic check it out and he said it was in very good condition.
So far I've only had to do the rear brake rotors and camshaft sensors. Of course my buddy has a Pathfinder and he also had to replace the sensors so that may be a typical thing for Nissan cars idk.
Anyway, the engine is strong, the clutch still has bite... I was in an accident 1 month after I bought it so that had me replacing the radiator. Other than that it has been both fun and reliable.
I was hit by another vehicle on 12/15... the insurance adjuster just quoted me the value of the car as $4000.
I think if you want a G buy one, but if you have to do all that work on it... maybe wait a month and go on a Friday... salesmen are more likely to wheel and deal towards the end of the week/month. Plus if it's sat on the lot some more, they're willing to deal just to get it to move. I would try to get another 1,000 or so off otherwise maybe look for a slightly less used G.
My Acura had 283,000 on it before it died. I'm currently at 186K and hoping for another 100 on this G.
Best of luck!

I only paid $5,000 for my car in 2016 with 132,000 on it. Dealership that bought it didn't realize it was a manual and just wanted to move it off the lot. Told me they have an awful time trying to sell sedans with manual transmissions. After I found all the service records in the trunk and realized how well the original owner took care of it and the dealer hadn't had it long enough to do anything stupid to it, I bought it.
My G35 has been even more reliable than my Accord, which I also bought from the original owner who took really good care of it.
