SEARCH. I know this is your first post.

Stick around, but next time you should do a search on it and you'll find tons of info.

No, there is not a serviceable filter...for either the tranny or the fuel.

There is a lot of info and almost any question you have has been asked at least 5 times. Keep that in mind and search will be a good friend.

The transmission has a mesh screen that could be cleaned with brake parts cleaner or something similar. It should only be replaced if the mesh is torn. As for the fuel filter, I will be replacing mine around 50k miles. It is attached to the fuel pump assembly in the tank under the back seat. My last Maxima had the filter in the same location and it was caked with sediment at 50k even though I always used top tier gasoline.

Is this difficult to change? Also, any ideas on a part number?

I think it took about an hour and a half. Only do it with less than a 1/4 tank of gas. I pulled the fuel pump fuse then started it until it died to relieve fuel pressure. I think it cost about $18 plus 7 for shipping from Courtesy Nissan back in 2005. I tried finding the part number for the filter/screen for the Z on the Courtesy site but cannot locate it now.

Thanks. I might try to change out the fuel filter this Summer when I do my other 60K maintenance.

I realize that. Just wanted to point out I was not filling up at mom & pop's gas with no discernable origin with 40 year old tanks. Just stressing that the screen could be replaced with favorable results even with using newer stations that carry higher tier gasoline.
