I just had mine done, with a Magnaflow race muffler on the mid-pipe in place of the sedan resonator. I was concerned the straight pipe would be too loud, even though several users here claim its "not much louder than stock". So I had them use a small resonator/muffler with a tip pre-installed on it. The size looked perfect and tip looks nice. So a Magna. resonator on the mid-pipe, and another in place of the muffler itself. I'll be damned if I didn't want to blow my brains out for doing this the second I drove off. Drone is UNREAL I cannot hear myself think. Windows rattle, seats rattle and honestly its emabarrassing how obnoxious it is.. Although I will admit the actual sound/tone the car makes is great, but it is stupid loud inside the cabin. I have had V8s running straight pipes, dumped, and it was not as obnoxious as this. So, before I even made it home from the shop, I stopped by another exhaust shop to have them weld back in the stock '05 sedan mid-pipe. This helped quite a bit, but the car is still WAY TOO LOUD.

If someone can think of something I may have done horribly wrong please advise. The tip is a good 2" past the bumper. And for good measure, I have HR-Y Pipe, MD 5/16 & Aramid Gasket, Z-Tube and K&N..

People do not do this mod, if you like the classy understated tone, pitch and volume of these cars. This is way, way over the top.
i think your problem is because you are running a magaflow race muffler, and a small race resonator. this will have almost the same sound effect as running a full straight pipe setup from the cat back, but of course with a lot less rasp

does your car sound something like this? but with less rasp?

Yeah its pretty similar but yes less rasp. I switched the Magnaflow with the stock sedan middy and its taken care of the rasp but the drone in cabin is unbearable. I took another look at the tip and its actually maybe a little less than an inch out from the bumper, so maybe I need to look at extending that. I dont know, could the resonator at the back be creating that drone? Maybe I should have done a straight pipe? My thinking was that the res. at the back would tone it down though.

Seeing as having no muffler is illegal i'm going to buy a used stock muffler and just run a straight pipe through the muffler making it look stock. We'll see how that works out.

I cant say for sure, for all states, but i think the resonator/mid-pipe counts as a muffler. Plus that sounds overly complicated to me..

Well I'm cali where basically everything is illegal lol. But seriously I believe it's actually not illegal. You can do anything after the cat as long as it remains below the legal decibel limit.

Its not necessary to run straight pipe through your existing muffler. if you just use pipe and a tip it doesnt look different from any other cars exhaust
