I have a question I was looking to get motordyne sockwave exaust and Megan racing long tube headers but yesterday I asked a guy who works at a smog shop if it was smog "legal" or ok for a smog if I added those parts and he said don't do it and that's it's going to give me problems when it comes to smog. And he strongly adviced me to not to tamper with it. Do any of you guys with aftermarket exhausts n headers had any trouble when it comes to smog checks??

but what are you getting at? If it's an oil leak into the spark plug well, those little gaskets are not available from the dealer or a parts house... the only way you get them is by buying a new set of valve covers (or, there actually is a vendor on here that can get them)
Well right now we noticed that the valve cover is leaking and thats all thats getting replaced, I dont think there is any oil by the plugs but we will find out I guess.

Thanks for the info.

just make sure its CARB compliant, i was about to drop 3k on a CARB compliant true dual exhaust system on my Z before i totaled it, along with a vortech supercharger(also CARB compliant). so CARB compliant = passes smog AFAIK, my Injen Intake wasnt CARB compliant but i took the sticker off my buddies intake. never had to use it tho, cops never cared to look.

Info Taken From: http://www.fs.fed.us/eng/pubs/html/0...11204.htm#CARB

CARB Regulations
In addition to the EPA regulations, the CARB has developed regulations in accordance to the California Clean Air Plan. CARB Tier II regulations are currently more stringent than EPA regulations for both handheld engines under 65 cc and nonhandheld engines and will continue to be more stringent until 2003.

Starting in 2003, the EPA handheld standards will be more stringent than the CARB standards, depending on engine displacement. Proposed Tier III CARB regulations however are more stringent than the EPA regulations after 2005. These drafted regulations are scheduled for CARB action in December 2002.

Pumps with engine displacement of 40 cc or greater are exempt from CARB emission requirements. Chain saws over 45 cc are limited to Federal EPA control. CARB has authority over all handheld engines, except those established as farm and construction engines. CARB regulations and a preemption list appear on the CARB Web site http://www.carb.ca.gov. Click on Off-Road Mobile Source Emission Reduction Program, Small Off-Road Engines and Equipment Less Than 25 Horsepower, and formal regulatory documents page.

EPA Regulations
EPA Phase I emission standards, referenced in 40 CFR Parts 9 and 90 of July 3, 1995, have been in effect since production model year 1997. (The most recent version of the EPA emissions regulations is found in 40CFR90 of July 7, 2000.) The EPA estimates that Phase I regulations will reduce hydrocarbon pollution from engines by an average 33 percent, compared to hydrocarbons released by unregulated engines.

EPA Phase II emission standards, which are more stringent than Phase I standards, are expected to further reduce the hydrocarbons and reduce oxides of nitrogen by an additional 59 percent beyond the reduction resulting from the current Phase I standards. EPA Phase II also changes engine classes and adds a required useful life period determination. The Phase II standards are scheduled for phasing in between 2001 and 2007. The first year of Phase II is similar to Phase I except for additional durability testing. In the second year and in subsequent years for particular models up to 6 years, the emission standards become increasingly stringent. See table 1 for emission by engine displacement and classification.

My headlights flicker when my turn signals auto shut off, but not when I manually activate them. Is that normal?

usually a good muffler shop has them in stock or can order one for you. As far as size goes it depends on the inlet ports as what diameter pipe you have. For example my resonator i believe has a 2.25in opening on either end so i got one resonator. A person with a 3in diameter pipe will have a different resonator so i would just find a good shop and see what they can do for you.

A wire tuck is when you take all the wires that randomly run through your engine bay, and re-route them so that they are hidden.

As an example, here's a very early pic of Marcus' engine bay before his wire tuck:

Notice all the black jacketed wire harness running everywhere?

Then after the wire tuck:

as for wheel spacers, they're used simply bring the wheel/tire further to the outside (closer to the fender) and less 'sunk-in'
