Rear Wheel Bearings and Hubs shoot

I recently replaced my front hubs and bearings at the dealership for a decent price they gave me (50%) off... But now my rear ones are even worse, they want $1440, although the service guy whos a good friend, will give me all the parts for $440... cheapest i can find anywhere else... Does anyone have a DIY for changing rear hubs, I know you have to drop the rear axle which is why it cost so much more for the rears... Or is a job that only a tech or a mechanic should do? If so, what are some decent prices from auto body shops to replace the hubs... Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thank you. By the way, the car is at 86,000 MI... front ones were shot around 75,000... If 1 is babying the car, and 10 is beating on it, I guess im a 6-7 driver...

You can try my buddy's shop in Carteret right off exit 12 on the turnpike. Tell him Jeff with the Black G35 sent you. He has very fair prices and always does a good job. Whatever I can't do myself, I'll bring there. They don't mind if you bring your own parts too. Ask for bruno or walter

Just curious, how much did the dealer charge you to replace the front hub and bearings? I need mine replaced so I'm just trying to get an estimate or if I should attempt it myself

for the DYI
you can put the wheel bearing into the hub and put it all on at once by removing 4 screws from the back! the whole thing will come out!

both those jobs are pretty much bolt on type of deal. only issue i can see is those both are RWD setups. The AWD might use something diffrent and a little more complex... Bearings should be $100 for parts and 2.0 to install each side. So $350 at the shop is fair. Infiniti dealerships around here want $129-179 per hour so you can do the math per side.

Should take a normal DIY guy 4-6 hours first time to play around and figure things out. Rears= remove the axle, lube them up on the diff side to take care of the axle clicking TSB as well.

4-6 hours to bolt on a hub?! Sheesh. Might have to take that trip to the dealer or shop afterall. Lol

i would say 4-6 for the AVERAGE DIY guy for the first time. the TSB pays the tech's .9 of a hour to do the axle lube if i remember correctly which involved removal of them, lube and flip 180degrees.

So 1hour to get both axle off, pop off those 4 bolts with air impact, use a puller to get the hub/bearing off should take 30minutes for both sides. Have the new pressed in to old hub, you need to make a trip for that and then bolt it back up and reinstalled. 2 hour or less job for someone who knows what they are doing and racing against the clock.

Its 4-6 hours yourself or $800 ballpark you spend, which for some is almost a paycheck. So your day vs your week's paycheck assuming your know what your doing. Also a press at harbor freight can be had for like $60, rather then pay someone $60 to press it.

Oh ok. That definitely involves more work. I'm thinking about the front hub assembly though. That shouldn't take 4-6 hours, correct? I know I don't need my rears changed yet but my front right is bad. I ordered the part so I have it in hand. Judy wondering if the DIY on that is bad or if I should take it to a shop

How long does it take you to do a brake job? That plus 15 minutes to do the hub swap and you are done.

That DIY right there is all you need. I cant tell you what your abilities are, if that DIY looks hard then take it to a shop. That front bearing is a walk in the park for me.
