A few questions about my sedan
A few questions about my sedan
Hi, obviously I'm new on here, I've had my G35 for almost 3 years and it's needing a little attention. Its an 03.
1. I've got the usual bad lower control arm bushing on the driver's side. I found the poly bushing from the place up in NY...good route to go? I actually have a delrin bushing in it now but would kind of like to go poly.
2. Driving in the rain one day and all of the sudden my windsheild wipers started making a horrible clunking sound...any ideas? I believe its something mechanical but would like a little input before I start throwing money into it.
3. Of course the radio went out and took the ac controls with it. Planning to go with an aftermarket replacement. Anything to watch out for? Anyone know of any good shops in the Tampa, FL area?
4. It needs an inner tie rod on the pass. side, any options other than going to the dealer and paying like $85 for the part? (I plan to install it myself)
I think that's about it for right now. Just changed the warped front brake rotors. Initially I loved the car, now it seems like its falling apart. But, as I go through and fix things, I'll probably to a little polishing and maybe some powder coating and make it even nicer than before. (oh yeah, it has 140k on it, anything else I should be watching out for or anything?) Thanks for the help!

Alan,
Most of the issues you brought up are understandable for a car with 140,000 miles. As far as the bushing for the LCA goes I know you can order them from Riverside Infiniti for less than $30. Then you'd have to pull the arm, take it to a shop and have the old one pressed out, have the new one pressed in, and re-install. I don't have that kind of time so I just bought the whole arm from them and replaced it.
For the wipers they are a pretty simple mechanism and you should be able to trouble shoot the issue pretty easily. You might have to pull all of the plastic trim in front of the windshield to get to the motor but that's easy.
For the radio, that's just a G thing baby....... Sorry I couldn't resist. That's definitely not normal for other cars but on ours it's one of the common gremlins.
And as far as the inner tie rod, there are multiple vendors that can usually get parts cheaper than your local dealer that a lot of members here use. Riverside Infiniti, infinitipartsonline.com, and g35parts.com are a few that come to mind. Remember too that the G shares a lot of parts with the 350Z so your local Nissan dealer might be able to help you with some things you might need.
Hope any of this helps and keep your baby running sweetly. No need to start to get down on her just because she's getting up there in age and mileage. Keep up with all of your maintenance and she'll be good to you.

Thanks for the help! I'll check into those websites!
I made the delrin bushing that I have in LF control arm, now. I wouldn't mind leaving it but I had to make it in a hurry so, I could have done better. Now, gotta decide, make new delrin bushings (which will not break like the stock rubber due to the lovely design flaw on our suspension) or just buy the poly bushings...
I was trying to just get rid of the car and not have to worry with all of this stuff but, I'd like to go through it all, take my time, and fix it up. Worst part for me is that I might not want to get rid of it, then! ...still want a truck though. hmmm..

These are always an option for bushings as well. They are a little pricey but should last a LOOOONG time. https://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-...-bushings.html

Those are pretty. lol.
Also, forgot to ask... my car has a clutch fan on it, I was surprised to see that. It has always been noisy, since I've had it. Is that normal? Temp guage stays about the middle.

That stinks! people getting an electric fan off a newer G and adding temp switch and relay and just removing stock clutch fan, or what? does that help mileage any or just the noise factor? I appreciate your help!
