g35-03 has to be jump started if not driven fone day
Our g35-03 would periodically not start. Dealer (and another mechanic) couldn't find anything wrong -- battery tested fine, etc. No one could find any drains on battery. Dealer suggested changing out audio system for about $800 and that "may" eliminate the problem. During the winter, the problem seemed to disappear. This Spring, problem has resurfaced with a vengeance and now the car won't start if it hasn't been driven for a day. When jumped, the car starts immediately and is then fine during the day, even with lots of starts and stops. While parked in the garage over night, car is not likely to start next morning. HELP!!!
Hello forum user milljj,
This problem seems to have come up a lot lately. Many speculate that the Bose headunit on your 2003 G35 sedan is causing the battery drain on your car.
Simply changing out the headunit to an aftermarket one, preferably a double din (look like this
) will cause the problem to go away.
One question for you- When was the last time that you have changed your battery?
Sincerely,
Paul

More than likely, it is the radio unit draining your battery. That's almost exactly what my car was doing when I first got it.
The shop being unable to find out what's draining it is really sad, that's a very simple task with nothing more than an ammeter and fuse puller
Anyway... to see if it's your radio, when you switch your car off for the night, pop the hood, open the fuse box by the battery, and pull the one for the radio/ac controls (can't remember which one it's called, maybe someone else can help?)
The next day, see if it's dead... if not, you know your radio is the problem.
Out of curiosity, do you have a disk jammed in the player or a CD-01 error when you try to switch to the cd changer?
BTW, if it is indeed the radio unit to blame, there are far far better solutions than letting the dealer charge you $800 to replace the stock crap with more stock crap that will just break again later on down the line.

that is a $1000 repair/upgrade for the most part.
pull the radio fuse out for a bit and see if you still have the problem to isolate if its the radio or not.
^ You could probably replace an OEM radio for aftermarket for as little as ~$400-$500.
$300 for the JDM DD kit (or less for the Metra) and $100 for a single-din HU plus install. It's just that the $300 for the JDM DD kit is pretty annoying if going aftermarket is the plan.

^ nice =D
i'm just trying to give the guy a more cheaper approach, if he took your advice and picked up a radio. say he spent $500 and it DIDN'T fix his issue he would be pissed off.
not everyone is into aftermarket radios. used radios go for about $500 on ebay or less.
do the fuse thing if you want to figure out what is causing the problem, replace the radio if you want to throw parts at the car and HOPE it fixes it.
