Exclamation HELP- 2006 G35 oil consumption- burn

35,000 miles, purchased pre-owned. Going through over a quart every 1000 miles. If I let the car stand a few days, big puff of blue smoke at startup then clear. You can hear chattering at initial startup then quiets down after 5-10 secs. Ive read up about rev-up motors having problems ( not sure if I have a rev-up, maybe you can tell me ), also read recently about valve cover gaskets that leak internally, can't see anything on outside and nothing dripping on ground. Can anyone advise ? Ive brought it to the dealer and they are doing an "oil consumption" test. I have to bring it back every 1000 miles, a couple of times. I just got this car and am pretty sick about it.

The "rev-up" motor is in the 2005-2006 G35 sedan and 2005-2007 G35 coupe with a 6MT.

So I read on from one of the links posted that if you fail the OC test, they will now put in a short block, as apposed a the long block which is spelled out in the TSB. Someone said Nissan put it into effect on 8/1/10. Is this a big deal, any major downside ? Also, Does anyone know mechanically where this oil is going, what the actual problem is ? Is it a valve cover leak ( internal) as some suggest or are the original rev-up motor heads just defective ?

I have never researched it, but based on the blue smoke on startup I would say it is a problem with the piston rings. However I have an A/T so I haven't really looked into it.

Short block is a block with crank, pistons and rotating assembly all installed.

Long block is the same, but with the heads bolted on.

The issue is the rings, so a short block will still fix the problem. Instead of new heads, they just reuse yours.
