cant keep 2500 rpm for smog test
I was trying to get my 06 G35x smog tested today(out of state car - totally stock and in good shape, 35k miles), and having a real hard time with it.
Basically as the car is AWD there is no dyno involved, so the smog tech has the OBD plugged in to his testing unit, sniffer is in the tailpipe, car is in Park
This part of the smog test involves revving the engine at a steady rpm, the window is somewhere from 2200-2800rpm that must be kept for 30sec. On my car it is hard to modulate the revs consistently and thus the revs will jump up or else go too low. The jump would not have been much but it would go up to approx 3000rpm which is enough to reset the time clock (30s) which starts the test again.
Went to two different test stations and the two different guys at the different shops tried a lot of times, when going for 2200rpm is is easy to barely move your leg/foot and then it would drop to under 2000rpm, when going for 2500rpm then the rev would spike to approx 3000rpm once again it is very hard to anticipate a rev spike/movement.
so not sure what can be done...with no load on the engine it makes it more difficult...tried with the AC on but no go ..
If anyone has suggestions for troubleshooting the throttle issue I'd appreciate it, thanks....
