Oil change suggestions

Hi guys,

First of all, I want to say hi to this forum - first time post. Second, I just bought an '06 G35 sedan (completely stock) and it needs an oil change. In the past with my old Camry I've simply left it at my dealership and let them put whatever they wanted into the Toyota, but with the G35 I think it deserves a bit more effort on my part.

I'm no racer and am not into modding or tuning my G, but I do want to take good care of it. I'm thinking either Castrol Syntec (5W30) or Mobil 1 Extended Performance (also 5W30). Are they both satisfactory for everyday driving? If so, I'll see if either walmart or lordco has good ideas on either.

EDIT: is there any noticeable difference between 5W40 and 5W30?

Thanks!

There's a VQ oil analysis thread somewhere on here, search it. Most people recommend German Castrol 0w30 in the thread. That's what I've been using since I got my car and have no complaints.

Castrol Syntec (if you burn through 10-30 or 0-30 too fast, switch to 10-40)
And a Purolator PureOne filter 14612 is the one in the book, but most of us use the larger 14610.

Any comments on K&N Performance Gold Oil Filter?

And for the engine oil I think I'll select Syntec 5W30 for now and wait for a good deal on the M1EP.

Thanks!

^ the K&N filter is good, Its the Same at the M1 filter.

Anyfilter made by Purolator, Wix, Bosch, M1 or K&N will be great.

Get the Autozone deal and not sure why you do not like the German Castrol 0w30. It has awesome ratings for UOA and is a very thick 30 weight oil making it almost a 40 weight. The autozone deal is $29.99 for 5 qt of $8 GC and a Bosch filter. Mobil 1 the only oil i would use is the Extended Performance series or EPS.

Haha I'd love to buy that one but no stores near me have deals like that (I'm in Langley BC, Canada).

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
Auto Zone is the **** for oil/filter specials. And +1 to all who use the larger FX 45 filter. Takes the 5+ quart jugs and fills the car exactly to the full line on the dip stick.

I'm a Castrol Edge fan BTW. I noticed my car used about half a quart more between oil changes when I ran the Valvoline synthetic, not sure why.

What I use (and I've been doing my own oil changes for 10 years). By doing it myself I know it's been done right and I save money. I change my oil every 7-8K and will occasionally change the filter between oil changes.

Been using Pennzoil Ultra w/ Mobil 1 oil filter since day 1 along with Shell V Power, 2-3x a week. I know my car is getting the best. The regular 5-30 and car loves it. As far as consumption goes, lowest it's been from Full mark (after fresh oil change) is a tad below empty line, but again that's with 7500 on a single oil change. It's bound to lose something.

This is the first i've heard of this. Do you know how much larger the FX45 filter is? I might have to make the switch.

I run castrol GTX. Just because it's conventional oil doesn't mean it's crap oil.
