Problems Starting, sometimes

Hi all,

I did a quick search and didn't see anything related to this so I hope I'm not asking something that has already been covered.

Occasionally, my car won't start. It'll turn over, everything comes on, it just won't fire. It seems that if I take the key out, lock and unlock the doors with the FOB, and try again it works. I can't find any rhyme or reason to this.

It doesn't seem like a problem with plugs or anything like that, when it fires, it fires right up. Seems like it could be something with the security system if it cuts of fuel or spark if the car thinks it's being stolen.

Do the "chips" in the keys ever wear out?

This is just an annoyance now, but I don't want it to become a problem.

Thanks in advance,
Brent

I hope I'm not hi-jacking your thread but I'm having a similar issue I can't find a reason for. My wife's '04 sedan will occasionally not start after she's driven it if she tries to immediately restart it. I never could dupliucate it but after it sat over the weekend I went to move it and I cranked it probably 10 times before it started and it smelled like it was flooded when it fired. I'll be following your thread to see if I can find an answer. Good luck!

I had a simialr experience last April with my '06 G35x. Fri. AM went to start the car. I released the starter after the first 2 cylnders fired. It stalled. Tryed to restart. It would not fire at all. I cranked it until I thought the battery was going flat. Took another car to work. Got home that night, charged the battery, still no fire in the motor.
I had AAA tow it to the dealer. I got a call midday Sat. from the shop. They said it fired right up. They thought it had been flooded. They changed the oil as a preventative against loss of lubrication due to possible gas in the oil, cleaned the ingectors and checked a few other items. It cost me "only" $400 but the car runs better now and I haven't had a repeat incident.

I figured out that it is the ignition interrupt is causing the problem. When it won't start, the red light on the dash is solid. Pull the key and try again, it's fine. The owners man says to make sure you don't have another key near the key to your car. I don't. It doesn't mention anything else to try. Any ideas?

Thanks

Had I known that a simple starting problem would blow my engine in about 3 months. I would have taken things more seriously.

The G would always start up immediately , first turn of the key she would start in about half a second, but one day she didn't start on the 1st attempt ,I let it crank for like 3 seconds. But she started up on the second try , it took about 2 seconds (on the second attempt), and let me say that was really unusual for the G. From that day on thats how it was . No more quick starts.

I wasn't really that concerned , cause she still started, and she still made really good power. I mentioned the starting issue to my mechanic , and he said " probably a bad crank position sensor " so now the start issue REALLY gets moved to the back burners.

Fast forward three months motor is blown and gross polluter , I pull it ,get a used one , install motor , take to dyno ( Had to put all of the mods back on )
tuner guy says my AFR is like 22.3......... FUEL ISSUES. G was way way lean , but in a really bad way. tuner dumped tons more fuel into the engine ,it was so rich that I barley got home.Next day fuel pressure test Fuel psi is supposed to be like in the 50's ...................Mine was 40psi on start up , but when revving the engine it dropped to 25, ................I blew it cause i starved it for fuel. one dime sized o-ring came off of something on the fuel pump, so because of that I had a fuel leak in the tank, and i never knew because it was in the tank.

No, if the key fob battery was no good you would not be able to engage the starter. In every case here the starter cranks the engine but the cylinders don't fire.

The immobilizer is fickle on these cars. If it doesn't start leave the key in the ON position for 5sec then in the off position for 5sec. It will start fine after that. Also ALWAYS lock your doors with the fob when exiting the vehicle. Mine only acts up when I don't lock it.

im having same problem

Has anyone found a fix for this yet. I have an 08 G35xs and sometimes it wont start the firs time. It starts for about a second then dies. I also have a problem with it running rough at stop lights.

The problem seems to b getting worse. Any advise would b appreciated. It obviously always starts fine at the dealership, so they're unable to help, and they act like they never heard of this problem.

Thanks

For some reason the link isn't working so I did a copy and paste from my original thread.
