Looking for advice in buying 2005 or 2006 G35x

I've been looking through this site for about a week now, and just joined. I am going to look at two G35x's tomorrow and would like some input on things to be aware of , or look for. The 2005 has about 60,000 miles on it and the 2006 has about 75,000 miles on it.

Based on what I've read, it looks like the '03 - '04 had their share of problems, but I haven't found much for the '05-'06 years. Are there any issues I should be aware of?

I just sold my maxima SE which was a nightmare of issues, so I'm a bit gunshy of Nissan based products, but I like all the things that come with the G35X's .

Thank you for any assistance you can be.

Major differences...2006 will have bluetooth (optional), larger brakes (standard) and a updated navigation system over the 2005

Typical issues....compression rods, axle click, wheel bearings, rear window creak...

I also come from a Nissan maxima.
Currently own a 06 g35x with all option and navi.
How much is ur budget? If you can go for the 07 or something else.
This car is not a luxury car at all. Cheap interior, too much cabin noise compared to a tl or is250. It needs a crapload of refinement, something Nissan has Always been behind the competition.
But if u still insist........
Go for the 06, the brakes alone are worthy over the 05. As for the Bluetooth (optional) it is primitive compared to other cars, same goes for the navi.
What u will get from a g35 is pure driving enjoyment, very responsive and powerful engine along with a very good awd system. These are some pros I could not enjoy from competing models.

I ended up buying the '05 as the '06 was a sloppy mess, and the owner of the '05 was willing to let it go for a very good price. I found out why on the way home. Service engine light came on and tire pressure light came on on the way home. The service engine light has to do with fuel evaporation or something. Says there's a large leak. The tires are fully inflated, but I'm getting the light coming on for 50 miles, and then it goes out for a while and then back on

That could be the reason why. Under or over inflated tires would cause the tpms to turn on. Congrats on the car. Look in the TSB section so that you could get on top of things as far as recalls and problems go. Otherwise enjoy your new car!

Some common issues or minor annoyances are that the engine will consume a bit more oil than other competing engines.
OEM cd player will go out soon so don't bother getting it repair; just get an aftermarket one.

This car is defintely more exciting than the competition.
And yes the interior leaves much more to be desired but its good enough for me.
The driving pleasure of this car more than makes up for the lack of refinement in the interior. wish I had the 07 interior with all the other parts, including the lower weight of the 06. Would be hell of a ride then.

The TPMS could just be an issue with the sensors. Maybe the sensors were removed. On my summer set up, I have no TPMS and the light stays on all the time.

Any service history on the car? Also should check if it had an issue with oil consumption or oil pooling around the spark plugs which required valve cover replacement.

I'm assuming he meant fully inflated as in the norm of 30-35 PSI and not max inflation of 50ish.

When I bought my 06 back in 07, I had the same issue with the TPMS light. Turns out the previous owner put the spare tire on (full size spare) and put the matched tire in the trunk. The spare isn't linked to the system, so I had to reprogram the tpms to the new sensor.

As for the CEL, what's the code? Could be a gas cap code.

I had issues with the tpms when I bought my car. Took it to the dealer and found the front two tpms sensors went out. Had dealer replace them under warranty. Seemed to fix the issue. Also AlexNY is right about the interior, it doesn't suit a car of it's caliber. Definately get the CEL checked out.

Sorry I've been absent a few days, it was a long weekend in some provinces up here in Canada, so I've been busy driving my G
First off, I'd like to thank everyone who replied. It's nice to see so much help being offered to someone new who has brought nothing to the site yet.

I've definitely got the window creak, and may have heard an axle click a few times.

I checked the tire pressures after the light had come on and came to realize that two tires were inflated to 48 lbs and the other two were at 35 lbs. I dropped the two higher pressure ones to 35 lbs and figured that would fix my issue, but the light continues to come on. It only comes on after about 50 kms ( 30 miles? ) and stays on for about 50 kms before going out again. I checked the stems, and the all seem to be tpms type. I haven't had a chance to pull out the spare to see what is on it though.

I called the infinity dealer where I'd been told all the work had been done but they said due to the privacy act, they cannot release any of that information to me. They can only tell me what outstanding recalls are on the car. I didn't have the VIN on me when I called, so I'll have to call back to see what is still oustanding if anything.
I did notice oil around the valve cover before buying the car. Is there a TSB or recall on that?

I have it written down at home. It's something about fuel evaporation, or some type of evaporation, and it said large leak. The salesman I bought it off of said it's probably the gas cap, so I'm picking one up after work today.

your check engine light might be due to a loose gas cap. tigten it or get a replacement and then reset the light.

You don't necessarily need a new cap.

One day, i forgot to put the cap on after getting gas and my CEL came on. After i put the cap back on, i still had to reset the code to make it go away.

Surprised the dealer sold you a car with a CEL on. That may not be legal depending on your state because the car won't pass inspection.

He said this has happened before and his mechanic told him it was likely the gas cap. He cleared the code before I left and said if it comes back on to pick up a gas cap. It has come back on and stayed on. We have an agreement that if I buy a gas cap and it does not fix the issue within the next two weeks, he will front $500 towards whatever repair is required to fix it.
