Recently installed Stance coilovers, have questions

Today I got my stance gr oem type coilovers installed. So far so good except for one issue. As I was pulling out of my driveway I turned my wheel all the way to the right and went over at a slow but steady speed over a shallow curb. I can hear this clunking noise in the front left corner, as if the coilover is hitting something when the wheels are turned. Any ideas what that might be?
Its fine when I hit bumps and even hard bumps.

Also I didn't adjust the coilovers correctly to my liking yet. What would be the best setting for dampness on a sedan? Can anyone also point me to a detailed link or give me some info on the proper procedure to lower and heighten the ride height. The instructions are not the most precise.

Thanks!

Sounds like the same problem i had and it was ripped compression rod bushings. But make sure that's the problem you are having.

or could also be the dampening is not set identical... like for example soft on the right and firm on the left.

Depends on how wet you want to get.

But seriously, the recommended procedure to set the dampening is to turn the adjustment ***** all the way counter clockwise to maximum softness and increase the stiffness from there. Just keep increasing and driving until you get the right ride for you, no one can tell you the best setting is X because we all have different tastes.

To adjust the height watch this vid, they use a Stance coil. http://youtu.be/FihfktjnExg

Ok I will have to get that checked out. If the car is not adjusted evenly on both sides, how do you measure the height and if it is even on all sides?

So I think I've figured out what I did wrong. I tightened the spring, which I've read now, should be pretty loose. Do you think the clunking noise might come from this? Tomorrow I'm planning on loosening the springs and adjusting the coilover only by using the threaded part.

No do not loosen the spring, that has your pre-load set. Follow the video on how to rotate the inner sleeve up and down to adjust the height.

A common way to check height is to measure your fender to ground measurements going from the apex of the fender to the ground. If the coils are on your car, measure the distance you want to lower/raise it and the adjust the coil the appropriate amount.

Ok makes sense, but what if the spring was tightened more before the install. How do I bring it back to the pre-load set?

That I'm not sure of, my coils are set up differently, but I would think you would want to loosen the top collars just until you still have tension on the spring.

Yes thats exactly what I was going to do. I want to loosen the spring but tighten the top collars just enough for the spring to be firm. I figured I did something wrong.

What would be the best way to turn the threads when the coilover is already on the car? Do I just turn the middle collar after I loosen the bottom collar?

I believe you have to loosen the bottom of the 2 collars at the top and thenspin the collar, but again, not sure since mine are different. You might want to post that question in the suspension section.

I'm no professional, but I had a clunk with my recent Stance GR+ install too so I've read up on it a little. For what it's worth, after reading a bunch online I tightened up all my bolts and my clunking went away

The first collar under the spring is the one to adjust your spring pre-load which should have been set from the factory and not messed with but if they've moved and theyre not even you'll need adjust them or take it somewhere to get it done. The collar under that just locks the top one in place, you'll need to loosen it up completely to adjust the preload collar. After the preload is set you should only use the very bottom collar to adjust height is what my Stance instructions say.

From what I've read you want the preload just tight enough so the coil doesn't spin. Any tighter and the spring will rebound like crazy. Any looser and you'll get clunking noises from it moving around. There may be an actual amount to tighten it listed on their site or in the directions. If not give them a call, everyone says their customer service rocks.

So here is what I did today. I released the collar under the spring and then tightened it slightly. This got rid of the clunking noise. I also figured out how to get the height right. Now what I have to do it determine exactly where the factory spring pre-load is at. I probably should call stance for that. I tightened it just a bit but I'm still weary that its not right. Here is my next question though.

I have the OEM type rear coilovers. This means that the spring comes separate from the rear strut and I use the stock spring basket. The spring also has an adjustable piece. Do I adjust both the spring bucket and the strut at the same time? How am I supposed to know when they are even?

The rear strut comes with only the bottom collar, any ideas on how I'm supposed to turn the strut to adjust the height, while it is mounted to the car?

Thanks!
