Sudden loss of power

Car was running fine then suddenly lost power. you can ease on the excelerator and you can get up speed to get around but if you push hard down on the pedal its starts to take off then bogs down and the does this pulsing action and then finally stalls to idle. Thoughts? Had a bmw do this and it was the exhaust converter... but could it be fuel starvation? thanks GRT

Any check engine light on? If no, Check for any loose hoses, electrical wires etc. If yes, plug in an OBD2 scanner and find out the error code here.

Fuel pump?

Really, way too many things can cause this, so hopefully it'll throw a code and give you a hint where to start.

No codes...but what happened was that car went into LIMP MODE. some sensor picked up a spike that was not long enough to lock a code. car runs fine now a friend who is a specialist in the computers said that until it locks a code, you cant trace it...but he has seen alot of 3.5 engines do this once then not again ...at least for a long time then you will get a code...GRT

if it went into limp mode, there should be a code stored in the ECU history, even if it didn't trigger a CEL. You may need consult, or a datascan tool to find it though.

Same thing happened to mine years ago though I got a CEL. Turned out to be the throttle chamber.

Check your throttle body! My buddy just had the same issue with his truck (yesterday) and we disconnected the negative battery terminal for about 5 minutes (just to reset the ECU) and he was able to get it home just fine and we ripped the throttle body out and cleaned the ever-living P!$$ out of it and he said not an issue yet...I've used this same method to cure the same problem on a few other cars!...hope it helps buddy!

Something similar happened with my car and it was a faulty alternator. It eventually got worse and worse and the car died. But like what everyone else said, there could be many different causes.

I have the exact same thing happening with my 2003 sedan. I know for a fact i have a good size exhaust leak. Possible that has something to do with it?
