Here is another one for the old guy's......I am 46

1976 to 1990 - Vette, GTS, Ford & Chevy 4x4's
1990 to 2002 - SUV 4x4's...Blazers, Tahoes, Subs.
2003...My G35 Sedan

Now, this list is not impressive, and family needs has out weighed impractical vehicles, BUT
I have been very fortunate that in my younger days I had seat time in the following:

AC Cobra's - 289's & 427's (YES THE REAL DEAL!!!!!)
Shelby GT 350, 500, and 500kR's
Sunbeam Tiger
Ferrari's - 60's vintage - 330's, Daytona Coupe, & Spider...GTO250. (Awesome car)
Aston Martin - DB4, DB6, DBS6, DBS8.
Other various muscle cars from the 60's - GTO's, Vette's, Hurst Olds Pace Car, Etc.

These cars were awesome to drive, and had a ton of Horse power unlike most of the cars today. The G helps bring the memories back. It's not close to the Cobra 427 where you had 450 to 500hp+ and a curb weight of about 2200lbs, but the it bring the fun back to driving.

I was coming back from North Carolina today, and turned my Bloses stereo up(Look up the other thread) Punched up the DOOR's CD, and DROPPED THE HAMMER. by the time the DOOR's, Van Halen, and REM were finished playing, I was in Atlanta Traffic.

The G35 is a Great Car, but the M45 has my interest....340hp AWD.

G35/SR71:

Now those are some cars !! I only read about cars like the Cobras and Ferrari's (although we saw them occasionally) here in the rural eastbay of San Francisco - it was the used American muscle cars (Shelby Mustangs included), that were 5-8 years old, not yet run or beat to death, everywhere, cheap, and in play when I was growing up.

Does the SR71 in your name have anything to do with a little "Blackbird" ??

ABQ_G35:

The Eliminator could have been a '69, I don't remember the cars I owned in "partnership" (i.e., we'll take turns running her till she drops) with my high school pals as well as I do the one's I owned myself, only. We tended to go for the larger 2-door hardtops like Impalas and Grand Prix's around here, as they were more comfortable for rural backroad beer drinkin', hell raisin', and entertaining the ladies (really liked the wraparound "couch" backseat in the '69 T-Bird, too). The muscle cars were obviously faster, and cheap enough to buy for $600 - $1,000 (3-4 guys, $250 apiece, you take her this weekend, I take her next). If we blew something up, we could usually repair it next week in auto shop (and while we're in there, let's go ahead and install those 4:88 gears in that rear end, eh ?).

It was time of innocence, cheap hi-octane leaded fuel, high compression, overcarburetion, and cheap used muscle cars with steel dashboards.

dbarnes,
LOL, okay, I understand that then! That T-Bird seat was cool, just like a booth at a bar!

G35/SR71,
Oh my, a Sunbeam Tiger, I would have loved to had "seat time" in one of those, there is a red one I see around here once in a great while, damn, that car was all engine!
Oh, from what I have read, the M45 will not be AWD, just be an option on the M35.

You guessed it. The SR71 still hold most of the speed records. It was one BAD A$$ Plane. My G35 Sedan is Black on Black, with 20% tinit, and 245/45/17's. I have a heavy foot to say the least. Back in 1977, my best friend, and I left the North Side of Atlanta at 5:30am, and arrived in New Smyrna Beach at 10:30am. We stopped twice for 20 minutes each. The CB ant kept coming off the trunk lid. We were in a 71 Mustang Convertable with a 351 Cleveland.

The Cobras were the best, 0 to 100, and back to 0 in 14 seconds, and the brakes were not the best in those days. You could buy a 289 for $3K to $5K, and the 427's $8K to $10K.....Makes me sick the prices they are going for today. The Ferrari's were the coolest. My absolute favorite was the Daytona Conv. When you start a Ferrari and smell the oil smoke, it's a smell you never forget.....It's sweet.

The Tiger was just that, a TIGER. It was a ton of fun to drive. Drove a Austin Healey 3000 and someone had swapped out the engine with a 455 OLDS wildcat. That was a handful to drive. The Infiniti Web site had a drop down box that listed the M45 with V8 and AWD.....Maybe I was mistaken....Hope not.

I had a friend in college, who dropped a 283 Chevy engine into a Triumph Herald, talk about a handful to drive, but it had no rear suspension, so it took off like a bullet, he could beat almost anything he took on, that car didn't last very long though, it fell apart, LOL, I wonder why!

OK I am 42 so without looking in old photo albulms to be reminded, in order as I remember (I do have pics)
1st car 70 Challenger R/T with AT & 383 Magnum,
next 72 Cuda pistol grip maual with 340
76 Mustang II with 302 manual & T-bar roof
76 Volare with full done 360 AT & could lift the front end off the pavement when "bunny" hopping
72 Corvette with 350 manual, & ran like crap,
then a few firebirds, & a cool limited edition Trans am, white with white rims, looked great back then. A factory ordered 84 Camaro Z28 with 305 & a 5 speed. Can't remember year white Dodge Stealth (but with 6 cyl)
Then around then (might have been 1 or 2 more) I got a sales job & had to go 4 doors. Boring stuff like Buick Century Limited, then 2 94 Eagle Vision Tsi's in a row, then Concorde Lxi loaded, then my 03.5 G sedan with Premium & Areo. The last 4 being red in colour.

I like the handling of the G but I would like 100 more hp! I have had it 2 years and it only has 12,000 miles with 12 tires (originals, Avid A4's, & winters) and 8 rims (factory for the winter & Konig Mongoose for the Yokahamas - summers).

I change cars about every 2 years as I get bored & I am already thinking about my next car. I would also like to know from the G what people think they would like to get next? Maybe a new thread? I know a lot of people will say the M45, but I am thinking Lexus GS430, or the Audi A6, as a move "up to" vehicle? Would like to go to a all wheeel drive, but certainly would like more burning rubber power.

Happy New Years!!!!

Yeah, and imagine that same engine with today's technology, holy cow, that might be too scary to drive on the street!

Wow, what a list of cars. As for me. I keep my cars a lot longer (average 10 years if they last that long), so my list is short. But here goes.... NO LAUGHING.

1976 AMC Pacer. Yup.... it was mom's car and I got it (the worst part it was torquise in color)
1985 Honda CRX Fun to drive
1988 Honda Accord Hactchback
1988 Cavalier Z24 convertable
1993 Acura Legend 2-Dr. Got to drive it fast in Europe...the best part was the 840i drivers would look and smile
1998 Olds Bravada (kid on the way needed 4 doors)
2003.5 Sedan (the best car and most fun to drive)

Harley01,
I currently also own a 1992 yellow special edition Miata (125K km). Lowered with HR springs and Tokico shocks. Car still looks almost new! Only 1500 in production. It's hard to compare it to the G35 - like apples and oranges. As I am sure you are aware, Miata owners are very loyal to their cars. It's a big love affair. I'm no different. The car has given me hardly any problems and it's a real "eye catcher". I have to say it turns more heads than the G35. To me, the Miata is more fun to drive (convertible and handles like a go-cart). I do not drive hard enough to take advantage of all the power on the G35. However, that power is nice on the highway since Miata has none.

Since I owned the Miata for over a decade and had it during my tender years in University, it remains my favorite. It's odd, I always receive compliments on my Miata's looks. It draws more attention than my G. However, if I mention I own a Miata, no one cares. When I bring up the G35, everyone's envious. All the people I know love the G35. It is always nice to hear people rave about your car.

Despite all the great attributes of the G35, there are too many minor problems with it to make it my top car. Rattles, seat belt and power seat malfunctions, radio circuit board had to be replaced, squeaky seats. All these problems in a 2 year period. It will be an expensive car to maintain when warranty expires. I had less problems on the 92 Miata.

Although I love the Miata, my next car likely will be another G35. It is much more practical plus I think it is the best bang for the buck! Also, I do like it when people drool over it. It is one of the newest and hottest cars out there!

One thing Miata and G35 have in common - women love them!
