245/45 18s And Stock Spare On An X?

I finally picked up a set of 18s, and now I need some tires for my '06x. I know the difference is .4" in height (26.3" tall for OEM spare vs. 26.7" tall 245/45 18s), but can I use the spare in a pinch if I should happen to get a flat? Or should I just stick with 235/45 18s, as that'll be the same diameter as the OEM tires? What's the best way to go?

I tried searching, but the search function is evidently failing right now.

You should be fine.
(Running 245 45 18 and had a blowout a couple of months ago. Used donut for a day without a problem.)

Thanks for the response, but your car is a 6MT, so you're not AWD. I'm concerned about frying the transfer case if I run the wrong size tire for a day.

I would think it would be fine in a pinch, but I went with 235/45's on mine just to be safe. I know the tire selection is smaller, but there are still a few decent choices. The 235's also fit 18x8's slightly better than the 245's.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm gonna do, since I really don't want to drop $$ on a new spare to match the same height. The new General GMax AS-03 has really great reviews, and is only 22 lbs. per tire! Most 235/45 18s are 25-27 lbs.

Dude.. go with the Conti DWS Extreme... I have those on my 04x.. awesome tires.. like riding on rails in the dry AND wet!

I'm looking at the Hotchkis front and rear sway bar kit for the G35x.. about 450, comes with new bushings and brackets.

My fronts are 18x8.5 +33 with 235/45, i'm not exactly a fan because of lips of the rims are a little exposed, I fear parking on side streets and the curb, i'm not into hella flush stuff so it doesn't work for me. I rather have HELLA functional.

Yeah, I don't know how wide the OP's wheels are. They fit the 8" perfect.

As far as tires go, I went with the Goodyear Eagle GT's and they've been great in snow, rain and sun. I've also read great things about the Conti's.

The last couple sets of Contis I've had were not that great, so I'm leary to try them again. I had the original ExtremeContacts on my old Monte Carlo and I could light them up at will, especially when it got cold out. I've read good reviews on the Eagle GTs, but they were expensive at my local Goodyear dealer when I checked pricing last week. Tirerack had them about $30 less per tire.

BTW, the specs on my new wheels are 18x8 +40. I couldn't find a decent set of coupe wheels locally, so I went safe and budget-friendly with a set of 1st-gen FX35 wheels. I can even reprogram the TPMS that are on them to use in my car. They are not aggressive at all, but I like the look of them. Thanks for the feedback guys!

I got my set of GT's from Treadepot.com for right around $500 a year and a half ago, but it looks like they've gone up a bit in price since then. They're still the same price as those Generals at $150 a piece though.

I prefer to buy locally, but nobody could come close to matching the online price when I ordered mine. I did have a local shop install them though for $80.
