Check Engine Light

Yesterday I took my air intake out of the engine bay so I could better reach lower parts on the engine while I was cleaning it. I had to unplug the air sensor but wasn't sure if I needed to unplug the negative on the battery also so I didn't. I have been driving around all day know problems and just started the car then the Check Engine Light came on. Is this something I can get rid of if I unplug the negative battery and then unplug and replug the air sensor? Need help please.

You'll need to get the engine code read before anyone here can help you

Had the code read this morning. It turns out that when I start my car the idle is way higher then normal. I noticed a couple times when I turn on the car it does goes all the way up to 2k and then drops down. I did clean out the carb when cleaning out my engine so maybe thats the issue. The mechanic said just give it a few days and let the car reteach itself.

You cleaned out the throttle body? You didn't use Carb cleaner, did you? Not sensor safe.

Did you unplug the throttle body connector while cleaning by any chance?

If you did, then your idle relearn is fked and need to be reset.

Search the forum for the procedure... (Its a tad complicated and takes a few tries to perfect)

But try the negative battery cable first. Take it out for an hour, reconnect and wait to see if CEL comes back on.

I unplugged the wire connected in between my Z tube and air filter. I then disconnected the whole thing with the closest clamp next to the plenum block. I opened the carb and sprayed some carb cleaner inside and wiped it out. After I had the code erased I have not had the check engine light come back on but when I start the car in the morning when the car is cold it still goes up to 2k, but other then that it is normal start. I forgot to get the code sorry. Should I let it sit another day or so and see and see what happens? Or should I unplug the negative and let it sit. If I do that will I need to unplug the wire connected to the air intake again? If you can give me a search word to look up the process to fix this or link I will check it out. Thanks everyone for your help! I must say this has been the most helpful forum I have ever used. Everyone is so cool here!

Here are the reset procedures. I would think you would need to do the idle air relearning whether or not you disconnect the battery.

Your car doesn't have a carb...its a throttle body. Don't ever use carb cleaner on these cars. I wouldn't be surprised if you drive around for a little and get a cel again.
