I replaced my PCV valve today. The old one had oil all around it, so I'm assuming this was one of the ways it consumed oil. I also have engine pinging, so this would explain it. I also installed a catch can, hopefully I won't see any oil in there and the pinging as well as oil consumption will be gone.
What is the status on your setup so far? And how much oil was it consuming before you replaced the valve?

I bought my daughter a 2004 G35 Sedan and it's using oil also. About 2qts every 3000 miles. I'm going to change the PVC and would like to install a oil catch can. Would you post a picture of where you installed the Simota can? I'm going to try and install this myself. Thanks

I know this is an old thread, but how has it held up so far?

I made my own catch can and vented it to the ground to see if that would help before I actually spend money and on 1 oil change i burned 1 quart in 1800 miles as opposed to the 1500 i got the oil change before(ive gotten 1800 before). So I don't know if it really slowed down. The catch can has collected some oil too. I'm going to change my PCV valve next. I'm at 99,000miles now so I think it's about time

 

I actually took mine off 2 oil changes ago. What really slowed down my consumption was a new PCV valve. With a new one, I had next to no oil consumption at all. My oil level barely dipped below the full mark. Im back up to burning 3/4 of a quart every 1k miles so ill be buying a new PCV valve tomorrow. Im going to go with OEM again but next time im going to try the autozone brand since ill be replacing it every 2 oil changes.

 

The first gen engine consumes oil no matter how you cut it. No catch can, PCV valve can cure this sucker engine. I gave it up long time ago, just top it off when required. Now it is dripping some oil when driving due to the lousy, leaky valve covers!
