Oil Consumption Issues Solved?

^This guy installed a vented oil catch can on his 04 6mt sedan from the PCV to the vacuum line on his z-tube and says his consumption is non-existent now. I have noticed that since my exhaust has become more free flowing, my oil consumption has increased from 1 quart per 4k to 2 quarts per 4k.

I want to give this a shot but I see a lot of other members on here run non vented catch cans. Can anyone chime in as to why they chose non-vented over vented? Any info is much appreciated.

I wouldn't put that catch can in the direct path of incoming air (say, when the air is wet, with rain...).

Interesting fix.

I have seen this sort of fix used on other vehicles that tend to draw oil into the intake system. It has worked.

I don't know enough about the G35's engine setup to say if it would work here. Worth at least thinking about though

I bought a new PCV valve as I discovered mine was leaking oil into the lower plenum. I also took the opportunity to install a Simota oil catch can. I'm going to run this setup for a month and see if it slows down my consumption. If not, I'm going to do what the guy in the video did. I'll try to keep everyone updated.

I would consider changing brand or type/upgrading oil.

It's stock no except the intake. An I didnt spend all that money on the Motordyne stuff to not install it. If I use synthetic it's worse.

So how is the oil consumption so far? I am supposed to get an oil catch can soon too.

Its only been about 2 weeks but as of yesterday when I checked my oil, the dipstick is reading full. Cant see any oil in the catch can either. Ive gone about 600 miles on this oil as well. So far so good. If your G is up there in mileage and consuming oil, I highly recommend replacing the PCV valve. Not sure when the recommended change interval is but I'm going to start changing mine yearly.
