Has anyone ripped off the cat heat shields? Negative consequences?

The rattling and buzzing is starting to annoy me. Right now, i use wire coat hangers to try to tighten them up, but seems like every couple of weeks i have to readjust.

I wanna rip the things off. Anyone done this? Any bad side effects other than maybe badly burning a cat if i run one over?

I have a 04 sedan and I took the driverside heat shield off because I had to change the motor mount and I didn't put it back on and its been well over a year now with no problems.

Mine have been off for about a year and I haven't noticed anything negative from it.

They are only on to prevent fires. If your cats get super hot like they usually do and you drive over dry leaves in a wooded area you can start a fire. So long as you're not offroading in the dry woodlands you should be fine.

Took both mine to prevent rattling, and we ripped them off my friends Maxima. Both cars are still fine.

Took mine off almost 2 years ago and other than a lack of rattling, no negative side effects..

Ha! I did the exact same thing! Coat hanger wire. Still didn't work so I ripped those damn things off and ended up cutting my palm pretty good too. Anyway, no issues to date and I think it this past Spring.

Good to go. Just be careful cutting/pulling them out.

Same here. Had them removed earlier this year. No problems whatsoever, but like the other poster said, best to stay away from dry leaves!

Can someone post pics or point on the location of the different heat shields under our car? I hear a lot of rattling. BTW I already ripped out the cat heat shields, no negative effects.

I just used self tapping screws to secure mine. Thought about taking them off.....but I figured it was best to just secure them better.

Ripped mine off my coupe due to rattling. It made the car growl bit louder, in a good way though, like you have an aftermarket intake. I just bought some exhaust heat wrap and wrapped up the same area to mitigate the heat and dry grass issue.

Mine were off for quite some time. Then I got test pipes.

There are heat shields on the exhaust manifolds, around the cats, over the midpipe resonator area, and over the muffler area.
