I think a good way to help prevent rust from happening in this kind of weather is to take it to a coin op and spend 2-3$ to hot rinse the exterior of the car so that it removes all the salt.

Sometimes its really bad outside so there's no point in detailing the car as OP mentioned. but spending that few bucks every week to wash the salt off the vehicle will go a long way.

I agree. I actually did do an undercarriage wash the other day...but more snow heading as we speak and I'm heading out into it.

On an unrelated note....my exhaust leak (rusting muffler) flange is getting louder and the drone is killing me. The exhaust has been the only real victim of the snow/salt and the rest of the undercarriage has held up very well. My heat shields rusted out and the muffler flange has a hole in it. Car sounds half decent but the drone on the highway makes me want to blast my radio just to drown it out. Guess I'm just gonna stop by a muffler shop and have them weld in a new pipe. I like quiet exhaust

I remember my 05 was only really faulted on the exhaust as well when it comes to the salt eating crap away. Mine got rusty towards towards my last bit with it.

How many miles are you looking to get out of your G before you get rid of it??

I have 117K now. I'm at the point where I need to make a decision if i hope to have any sort of equity in a trade-in for my next cars (likely a G37x). My car has all the bells and whistles (navi, etc) and well maintained and clean, but the miles are creeping up.

I haven't quite decided yet if i want to trade it in now....or really try for 200K miles. I like my car....i just want to be sure its reliable enough for 100+ mile highway cruising.

So i dunno what i'll do. Car runs like a top, so it's hard to think about ditching it now.

You should just go see what a dealer will give you for it. Might surprise you lol. The G37Xs are also pretty reasonably priced right now, whether you buy new or used (heavy rebates on new and a CPO G37x is a very good value albeit there are less around these days)

Just depends really! Nothing major will go on your car unless the engine like, randomly blows but I doubt that will happen since you maintain it so well. People easily put 250k on these things.

Might just be worth it to see what it is worth though.

For our members in the frozen north, east and mid west, spring is just a few weeks away. By the end of March you'll be washing your rides in the driveway just like we do all year long in SoCal....and you don't have to pay our gas prices!

Well, I cleaned and detailed the car over the weekend. Who cares of it will get dirty again, i needed to see shiny black paint and wheels again.

Changed the oil, air filter, and washed oT and now love the car again lol. Black cars do look pretty sharp when all cleaned up.
