Best replacement tires for factory 17" 's
Has anyone replaced their factory tires (Goodyear RSA)... maybe to a touring tire... looking to replace tires...... willing to give up a little to get a quieter ride.....
i have 235/50-17 Michelin Pilot XGT Z4's on my 2005 sedan. i took them off my 2003 sedan when i traded the car in. they only had a few hundred miles on them, and i liked them better than the stock tires on the 2005, so i had them transfer them to the 2005. so far i can't complain too much about them. i did have a set of Eagle GSD 3 F1's, but they couldn't ever balance them right. they gripped like mad, but the balance issue drove me insane......got them to take them back and i ended up with the Michelins. they are quiet, ride well, and grip well on the dry roads. they are also good on the wet ones, but not like the GSD 3's. hope this helps.
From this point forward I will only ever buy Eagle F1-GSD3's (D3s different from just the F1-GSD's) Grippy as HECK.
I also had a balancing issue to begin with but got the tires roadforce balanced at my local discount tire, they did it for free since I bought the tires from there (and I whined about the cost of the balancing) and I haven't had a problem since. These tires are so grippy. To quote a friend of mine from my teenage years "These things stick to the road like **** to a blanket"

I put the Kumho ECSTA KH11 on my sedan (235-50-17). Very happy with the handling and ride. Much quieter than the Goodyear RSA. The only downside may be that this is a summer tire. So if you need something for snow, this is not the tire for you.
I've had the Kumhos on another car, they stick like crazy. However, they wore down quick - which is probably the tradeoff for sticky.
They definitely were dangerous in inclement weather, but here in Socal that's almost never (except that is for the past month or so - rain, rain go away)
You can do some research on Tirerack (folks post their opinions there):

I replaced my RSAs with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's after a nail puncture in one of the rear tires at 18K miles. The ride is a little harsher, but they stick much better, and they are supposed to have a much longer life than the Goodyears. I'm very happy with them.
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 235/50/ZR17 - W Rated!!!! Much better than the stock GY GSD's; better handling, longer lasting (supposedly...with a 400 treadwear rating
) and no radial pulls (which made my car pull to the right even after 2 alignments and a new control arm as per the Infiniti TSB). They are a bit louder but well worth it; especially when the dealer replaces them for free (as per my warranty and the unfixable GY radial pulls)...

235/50/17 will fit, actually the tire size IMO the car should have come with. Check out www.tirerack.com great reviews, all the information you need.

Thanks for the pics, that answered my question, and I"m putting in my order soon for the same set. I had the Pilot Sport A/S's on my last car, loved them (hated the price)
