does the flywheel on our cars absolutely need to be replaced?

I have an 06 g35... i found a guy who will resurface my flywheel and replace just the clutch for $1150... is this a smart move? can our flywheel be resurfaced or does it need to be replaced? please advise. thank you.

ps. i understand we have a dual mass clutch/flywheel... im wondering if i can get by with just replacing the clutch and not the flywheel. thanks!

This is why we don't buy cars we can't afford.

Yes, you absolutely must get a new clutch, flywheel and throwout bearing.

^ I have to disagree with you. Their are shops that can resurface the stock flywheel. I believe it requires a special machine but their are threads on here where people have gotten it resurfaced. Just need to search for them.

Captain Obvious here, you can replace the clutch and throw out bearing and have your flywheel resurfaced. I've replaced clutches/bearing and never touched the flywheel in my Vettes, GTOs and my last Z without issues.

Is 1150 a reasonable price?

Why don't you just buy the jwt kit and pay someone to install it? It would be about $1200 total, you'd have a new clutch and flywheel, and it would be lightweight so you can racecar betterly.

You can resurface the stock flywheel. The issue is finding a shop that will do it right and has the proper equipment to resurface dual mass flywheels. Not every clutch shop has the proper equipment.

I've done clutch jobs on other cars before with resurfaced flywheels. Never an issue. I've never had a dual mass flywheel resurfaced however.

My Mustang now has a resurfaced flywheel in it. Never batted an eye to have that done.

But at a minimum you need to resurface or get a new flywheel. DOn't just install a clutch without a fresh surface on the flywheel or you will have chatter issues.
