My 3rd g35 is heating up

Hey so I just bought my 3rd g35. However, this one is an 03 sedan. My first 2 overheated and I'm trying to avoid losing another one. So I haven't had a problem with this car until today. I was parked with the car on to have the a.c. running and I noticed the temp gauge was half way. I kept looking at it until it rose 1 bar. I turned it off and checked the coolant reservoir and it was all the way up to the top. I then drove to my friend's house with no problem and had it parked again with the engine and a.c. running and no problem. I then drove away and the gauge went up again but went back down as I kept driving. I didn't have a problem until I reached a long red light; the temp gauge went up 2 bars and back down as I drove. It happened again at the next light and went down again. I stopped and checked the coolant and it was still all the way up. It was a bit dirty and clearish. The temperature out here was high 80s low 90s when thus happened.

There are many issues that could cause this problem. Bad thermostat, bad fan motors, bad fans, loose belt/s, bad wiring etc. Since you're not losing coolant I would suspect your radiator is in good shape. Time to start testing all of the components in the system.

What does a "Bit Dirty and Clearish" mean? It's either clear or has something in there that doesn't belong, possibly oil residue! Until you posted this clearish thing by the way your car reacted I'd be looking at your fan to see if it comes on! Remove your radiator cap, is it clean or is there a milky residue on it? Also check your oil, what does it look like and is it low? If you have any milky crud in your radiator fluid you likely have a blown head gasket! If not check your fan, you seem to heat up when not moving...and change your radiator fluid!

Third G35 and you don't know about the extended factory warranty due to fan issues? Heating up while stopped, and going back down while moving, points to an airflow issue. Inspect those fans!

3rd one with overheating problems? Is it the cars or is it you? I would;
inspect all hoses, maybe just go ahead and replace them all including heater hoses
drain the coolant
replace the thermostat
replace the radiator
do multiple coolant flushes with distilled water (see FSM)
fill using a lisle funnel and 50/50 or 70/30 distilled water to Nissan coolant
I got a lot on the subject, much of it on my thread towards the bottom https://www.infinitiscene.com/thread....230572/page-2
I had an ultra-minor leak at the neck of the radiator I could smell for a year yet it didn't show itself until after ordering the new radiator. What's the chance of that

Now would be a good time to delete the mess of heater hoses including the oil filter heater unless you're in a cold climate. This will clean the bay up a lot.

Badass engine bay - off topic, but what did you use to paint the coolant and power steering tanks with? Mine are looking real gross and could use a touchup, and maybe some assistance in holding together in the long term.

Thanks. I used wrinkle paint which conveniently matched in both color and texture the abs plastic the air filter box is made out of.
I degreased the reservoir(s) then sanded them until there was no shine on the surface w/300 grit(?). The paint takes 48 hours to dry before handling iirc. You cannot throw these parts in the oven to bake the paint because they're plastic but I found that proper prep and 48 hours before handling is good enough. Over time the engine will bake the paint, perhaps not in the same way but bake nonetheless. My reservoirs are very durable and look just as good as they did when I painted them a year ago.
The manufacturer said this paint is designed to be used on metal but what do they know?

Your third G35 and you still don't have a FSM to follow the troubleshooting steps for overheating?
Considering the age of your vehicle, start with replacing the water pump, hoses, radiator cap and do a pressure test. You may also need to replace the radiator and fans as well.

With all due respect to this individual...

dont replace any of that ishhh

have your fan clutch tested

your problem is at idle.

2003 G sedans are fan clutch and aux fan built, completely diff than ALL other Inf models.

test the fan clutch when your car is having the overheating issue.

dont know how to get it tested? Ask me..

What this guy said + replace the radiator as those r known to fail with age/mileage and can leave you stranded.
I didn't know the G had a fan clutch. WTF? I'd get rid of that if you can and go electric.

The early 03 models had a mechanical clutch. Thats why there are two idler pulleys on the alternator/power steering pump belt. Nissan removed it in 07 and put a spacer where the bracket was
