First Road trip in 2004 Sedan
So I bought a low mileage 70k 2004 sedan in November. Had not driven it on any lengthy trips since I purchased it. 2 weeks ago I drove from Texas to Alabama and back. Car performed well. Fought a 25mph crosswind all the way to Mobile before heading up I-65 into the wind. 20.5mpg average at 85mph. Coming home the winds were calm. Effortless 80mph cruise with several runs up to 100 to dispatch some pesky followers. Averaged 22.5mpg on the way home. The only negative was the noise from the Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2's. These tires are horrible. Super hard. Tracking is terrible. They follow every road imperfection. And the NOISE! You would swear the front wheel bearings were bad. I rotated the tires front to back when I first got the car and the noise went away. I realized that the tire sizes are staggered on the G so 3k later i rotated them again and the noise returned. They are definately coming off the car soon. Open to suggestions for some quiet tires.

my latest set of tires, I’m actually using cheap Amazon tires (Travelstar performance all seasons) and they are surprisingly good. Quiet, handle well, great wet and dry traction.

i bought a similar condition 04 sedan back in February with 58k miles. It did have a front wheel bearing which growled. At first I blamed the tires then I noticed it made the noise only when I turned the wheel left. These cars have weak front wheel bearings.

That does sound like a tire issue. My car came with nearly new tread Michelen Primacy tires, but they were so old they were dry rotted. They also made noises and groaned.
Has BFG updated the design of the TAs? I had a factory set on my 2003 Oldsmobile and they look very similar to the ones they are still selling.
Here is the tire and size I’m running. 10k miles and great so far.

Definitely an issue with the mileage, even yesterday with a stout west wind, I got 25.5 mpg averaging 78-79 mph from Monahans, TX to Lordsburg, NM (405 miles) and today filled up again in Phoenix and still just over 25 mpg and that was driving a good 25 miles on surface streets in Tuscon yesterday and about 60 miles on surface streets in Phoenix today. I do use cruise control as much as possible so that helps. But last year, with less wind, I averaged 28 mpg from Dallas to Phoenix and back. Unless you're hauling butt, catching up to cars, having to slow down, then speeding up quickly once around them, you should definitely get better mileage. Wheels that are heavier than stock can affect mileage too.
I've got the 6 speed so its 2500 rpm at 70 (not sure what it is for an automatic) and getting my car tuned did add about a 2 mpg improvement in freeway mileage.
I've got Goodyear Eagle Sport A/S tires on my car (235/50/17 all the way around) and they are pretty grippy for an A/S tire, get around 50k miles out of a set and they are pretty quiet. Have them on my Accord too. I'll give up some summer tire UHP tire grip that I'll probably never use for a quieter, longer lasting tire.
