Dealer wants $1600 to replace ECM
Dealer wants $1600 to replace ECM
I got a p0507 code on my car and it won't pass smog- took it to a local mechanic who changed out throttle body and and then told me that the code can't be erased without the dealership due to some computer error. Took it to the Infinit dealer and they are telling me I have a bad ECM that needs to replaced for $1600. Is this something that another mechanic can do or just the infinity dealer? I feel like I may have to pay it as my previous mechanic just sent me to the dealership and said only THEY can deal with it with their computer systems. Should I try and install a used one from eBay myself and then have the dealership recompute? $1600 sounds like about how much the car is worth-- or is my cheapest option to just junk the car.
found some on eBay for $100- $200. But even if I install it do u know if I still need them to reprogram it etc?

You will need a BCM/ECU and chipped keys programmed to match each other. PM me with year and car info. I can probably help you out.
short of going to the dealer for reprogramming of necessary items, not sure what else you need.
Biggest thing is to make sure you get the correct ECM, the numbers will match PERFECTLY, if not then it's the wrong one.

Thanks for all the info - sounds above my skill level but I’ll hold off on the dealership for now and see if I can attempt a diy fix- if unsuccessful I’ll be forced to deal with the dealership or sell the car— dumb thing is the car works perfectly but just can’t pass a smog without the code clearing and I can’t just clear the code with a simple Ecu reset/ idle relearn: insane I may be out $1600 to clear a light.
