Dash Lights On and Off

Hey guys, newb here. I picked up an 06 g35x earlier this year with 205,000kms or around 120k miles. After doing the entire front suspension, radiator, valve cover gaskets (last week) and cam/crank sensors (hitachi as preventative maintenance), i have one more issue that is bothering me.

So, i usually have my headlights set to Auto. When they come on in the evening, the dash lights dim as they are supposed to/set by the little wheel by your knee. Now, when i start driving, the brightness will randomly flicker back to full bright and back to dim for the first 5-10 min of driving, and then usually stay dim for the rest of the drive. It happens more when going over bumps.

Now, i tried playing with the Daytime running light module (replaced) but that didnt show any signs of failure. So, yesterday, i smacked the top of my dash above the cluster with my hand and it "flickered" twice but then i couldnt reproduce it by doing that either.

I assume its a loose connection or something, but is there anything else i should check before taking out the cluster? Also, my headlights dont flicker when the dash does, they stay on solid (afaik). Also, its been happening for a few weeks and has started to happen more often now. Pic for attention

Thanks!!

I heard that the HID bulbs can go weird as they get really old. I'm having to replace my D2R low beams as I type...

Nice looking G.
I would first suspect the "little wheel" as being the culprit, like a scratchy volume control on an old radio. Try "exercising" that control like 50 times from brightest to dimmest and then see if your dash lights will show a consistent level...

Well, i took my drl module apart and found a solder cracked. So i resoldered the joints that were "weak" but im still having the flicker issue. I guess ill be living with it until i feel like tearing the dash apart to pull the cluster and check for loose connections. I may be repainting my front bumper soon as its all damaged and cracked in 3 places, so while its parked i might look into it. Ill post the solution if i find one. Thanks guys!!

Same problem

Hey I’ve been having the same issue and the turn signal lights in the dash won’t appear and then when you smack it it will come on and now they are starting to go completely out just the turn signal and the one that says d for drive and the mileage did you ever figure anything out?

The circuit boards for these clusters are crap and start giving all these issues after a while.

My odometer backlight is out as well. I probably won't bother trying to fix it.
