Ztube

I keep hearing stillen z tube and intake is the way to go. How does it differ from other ztubes out there? What do y'all recommend? Just recently got my G35 and I have to treat my lady right.

I have the stillen Z-tube and I like it. The molding at the edges was a little rough, I trimmed and filed it to get it smooth. Other than that, I love it. I'm in CA, and was happy they gave me a ARB EO# so I can still pass smog.
For the intake box, I run the OEM Rev-Up box. Similar to stock, but with a large venturi/velocity stack. I like the Stillen intake box, as it still pulls air from the outside like stock intake does.

Did you tune your car afterwards? I was thinking of purchasing the stillen ztube andi ntake kit or buy the OEM 350 Z one.

I haven't used the Z tube but when I made my 3.5" intake and Hi flow filter I had to tune my 2005. It pulls way better than it did stock and the G's normally run on the rich side stock ECU tune.

Z-tube is literally the intake pipe from the 350Z, it didn't have the resonator that the G35 has, this mod is purely for changing the intake SOUND, you will gain no horsepower.

It does sound fantastic though.

Stillen Z-tube is slightly different from the OEM Nissan one piece 350Z tube. It has rubber couplers on the ends rather than being all formed into a single piece like the OEM Z-tube.

The rev-up airbox with the larger velocity stack is a performance improvement though.

None of these mods require tuning since the inside diameter of the pipe is the exact same. Going to a 3.5" or larger intake pipe will require tuning though.

No I have not gotten a tune. I don't think it needs a tune yet honestly. I plan on getting a plenum spacer in the near future, then I may consider it. Its daily driver for right now, so I'm not shooting to squeeze every HP out of it.

I'm considering getting the Hypertech programmer, but I hear many mixed reviews on it. I'm in CA, so the main advantage it may have for me is I can easily return to stock tuning for passing smog/emissions testing

I enjoy the noise my Z-tube with rev-up box combo make. No tune needed. But i am tuned due to HFC.

I might sell my setup if you are local to me. Going back to stock and moving on soon.

Uprev tuning actually makes the engine run BETTER than stock and thus even easier to pass smog checks. Plus you can have up to 5 different maps (I think it's 5...) and you can have one of them be a STOCK map. This is useful for people using test pipes, you can always throw your OEM cats back on and switch to the stock map to pass smog.

There's no way the smog test would know your tuning has been tinkered with, it doesn't throw up a red flag or anything. They look for any OBD2 codes and sometimes use a tailpipe sniffer to test emissions, depends on the state and their testing requirements.

I recommend the Z-tube from Z1 Motorsports instead. I see someone mentioned having to file down the stillen one? The Z1 comes mint, with quality clamps and rubber things. I got a y-pipe from stillen, box was shredded, pipes look ehh and overall crooked. My one and only experience with stillen, but I will gladly go to Z1 for any part.

Just my opinion, it'll sound great after the mod is in! That reso on the OEM intake for a G is super good at silencing.

The Z-Tube and neoprene couplings from Z-1 are nice. I believe they have red, blue or black. So you have smooth couplers instead of the the factory accordion style.

Yup! and they work great. Gotta kind of jam it around to find the sweet spot of the tube lining up, but once you do those couplings really give a good seal.

Yeah, my Z-tube had a few rough edges, I'm sure it would have been fine, but I was just being a little OCD and cleaned them up with an xacto.
I use the Z1 silicone couplers with my stillen Z-tube (and stock intake), they make it a tight fit! Definitely takes a little more patience to get it all installed, but once they're in they fit very well.
ConceptZ just started making the intake couplers too, they have an option for the TB coupling to fit to 75mm throttle body's.

G35 Coups 6MT black/tan
REALLY sorry for bringing up a dead post... I know if i would have posted a new thread, people would say "go look up older threads.." so i just figured id ask here...

So just to confirm.. 2007 G35 coupe 6MT
im installing magnaflow catback tomorrow..

I currently have just a K&N drop in filter in the stock air box, but i was thinking of getting the Z-tube as well.

Question:
1.) with the Z tube and magnaflow catback, i DO NOT need a tune right? just undo the negative battery terminal and then let it learn on its own?
2.) installing the Z-Tube without a tune.. will it cause me to LOSE hp? even if its one or two?

Thanks in advance guys. Just trying to learn.
