I have a 2006 Infiniti G35x sedan. I’m hearing some knocking and clunks at random times when going slow. When checking my car I noticed the sway bar end links move side to side easily, not sure if this is normal. Upon further investigation I noticed they are connected to what Infiniti calls it a rod connecting stabilizer. I circled the part that I’m talking about. Should that bushing be able to move so easily which moves the sway bar end link?
To my understanding, that is a ball joint. They should move/twist, but not with ease. If you can freely twist the link by hand, then they may be due for replacement.
One trick to test the end links is simply driving over speed bumps. If you drive straight over them, the noise will be minimal or non existent. If you drive over them at an angle, you should be able to hear them.
Check the sway bar bushing (#54613) for wear as well, as well as the lower control arm bushings. The inner bushings can fail.
Yeah, that looks LOOSE, at least from what I can see in the vid. I'd replace it. They should be firm, but still able to move with pressure applied.
Probably best to replace that joint as well as the link itself too.
You can also unbolt/remove the link, drive the car around and see if the noise goes away. Just don't take any corners at high speed!
Thanks so much for all your help. Both sides of my car have loose ball joints and links so I’m just gonna replace both on each side. Along with the clunks at low speeds, my car has also been suffering from violently shaking in the foot well where the pedals are and shaky steering wheel more noticeably at high speeds. Could the worn ball joint and sway bar links be the cause of this too? I replaced the brakes, 1 brake caliper and got my rotors resurfaced in order to try to stop the shaking. It still does it
