Ticking noise on warm idle
Ticking noise on warm idle
Hey guys I'm new to the Nissan scene and just bought this '06 vq35de revup MT sedan with 100k on it. Great condition for its age.
Within two weeks after owning it I flushed all fluids and replaced the plugs. Ive been noticing a ticking/clunking sound coming from the drivers side around cyl6. Ive never noticed it before but in all honesty I wasn't paying attention. From a video I took before the plugs it did not seem to be so loud, car drives and idles great, and super smooth with no noticable power loss but since it's a new-to-me car its hard to tell. It's only audible (from what I can hear) on a warm idle..
I torqued all of the plugs down when I did the change but I'm going to inspect them tomorrow. Not sure if its a tensioner issue but this noise hasnt been so apparent before.
Ive searched dozens and forums and have a general idea but decided to post this. Ive been hearing it could be the FPR even but that is on the other side of the engine bay so I'm not too sure.
Anyways and help is appreciated, thanks!

Use a mechanic stethoscope directly on the right side (passenger) fuel damper, that's usually the one that goes and it does make one hell of a racket that you can distinctly gear inside the cabin as a sort of "thumping" sound that is more prevalent from the passenger seat.
It typically isn't as "clackey" as your video but phone microphones are pretty trash for capturing directional sound.
I would first check oil level on a COLD ENGINE, preferably one that's sat for 12 hours. Next verify the spark plugs are STILL torqued.
Remove that plastic engine cover as well just to eliminate random rattles. Run the bolts back down into the intake plen and put the plastic cover up in you attic (or garbage can).
