SLOMMY VII Drift Chronicles

I managed to limp slommy home after the motor mount blew and ordered a set of the Z1 Polyurethane mounts.

The top of the motormount had completely separated. It wedged itself so that the motor was cockeyed and made it impossible to get in reverse.

The new hotness

And the tool to install said hotness
The motormounts on these cars is a huge pain in the ***. Theres no space for you to get any tools in there and honestly its probably easier to pull the whole motor then do the mounts than try to do the mounts with the motor still in the car.
But we got them in after many hours of hard work.

I was in a hurry to get these done because I got invited to a private day at Piedmont and I wasnt about to miss that after I missed my first one due to the crank angle sensor.

I couldnt have asked for a better day.
Piedmont was perfect. There was only a few of us driving that meant we basically got to hot lap the track. I also finally got some chances to run boss circuit!
I could run that little course for hours, you just get sucked into the flow of the course. My roomate got this sick lil clip of me going from learn to link on the course too!!
But as Boss Circuit giveth, Boss Circuit taketh away. I was running the course in reverse and messed up on the downhill portion and got sucked into the tire barrier. Broke the tie rod, headlight, and cracked the core support really badly.

Learned my lesson about traveling with spares here. I was lucky one of my buddies was able to run me to the auto parts store so i could grab a new inner tie rod and drive her home. I also got super lucky that the wheel took most of the impact , the control arm managed to avoid damage entierely.
But Here's some super sick shots from the event!!

Shortly after this piedmont held another public event and of course i couldnt miss it. I brought one of my buddies out with me and even got to run my very first tandems ever!!!

so me being me, on the day i just learn how to tandem I get swept into a 7 car train.

The g has been such a great drift car and i absolutely love her. i wouldnt trade her for anything else.

The only real downside to drifting a G is it's weight, however it's a great chassis to learn on since that weight adds an additional layer of PREDICTABILITY.

Did you replace the rear diff bushings with poly?

What about the subframe?

If any of those are still OEM rubber I would look at swapping them out asap, it will make the rear even more predictable when switching the power on/off.

Also, your carrier bearing on the propeller shaft is probably taking an absolute beating, in the near future you should be keeping your eyes open for a 1-piece aluminum driveshaft. Keep in mind that a lot of them do have an ever-so-slight vibration at 130+mph, I had mine checked at the local driveshaft shop and they said it's essentially "normal" considering the overall length of the shaft.

i think the weight is a huge advantage actually. longer, heavier cars are much more stable than shorter cars meaning you have alot more room for error. have not replaced the rear subframe bushings yet. diff bushings are getting replaced soon. im on the hunt for a single piece drive shaft. trying to reduce as much drivetrain loss in power as possible.
