6MT Worn Synchromesh?

Hi,

I have a '03 6MT sedan with 28,000kms (17,388miles) which I bought used a month ago.

I have noticed that when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear it feels like the synchromesh is worn. I almost get the crunch...almost but not quite. I can definitely feel the gears meshing! This situation improves greatly when the gearbox is thoroughly warmed up.

I am concerned that the syncho is indeed worn. Can you guys share your experiences?

If it is worn, would this be a fix covered by the warranty?

I mentioned this on my '04 to the tech at my 7500 mile service (have more or less had it since day one). It's really only present when in stop and go traffic and I'm light on the throttle. If I am just crawling, and go into 2nd, it seems like the synchro doesn't keep up and I get a slight grind or can feel a little resistance. If I am heavier on the throttle and shift at a higher RPM, it's not a problem.

They didn't notice it, and it's sometimes hard to get it to duplicate. Will just be keeping an eye on it for the next service.

Mine is brand new and I feel it also. However, it's mostly when I use sloppy clutch work.

You might try slapping some redline tranny fluid in there, it seems to help especially when temperature is an issue, hot or cold (stop and go traffic, or first thing in the morning)

I do remain concerned about the longer term durability of the synchromesh. Having the "crunch" can't be the best thing!
