Heh, I think its a part of the air diffuser for the aero package? Not sure either but my car has them too.

Why do you want to cut it off? Its usually not a good idea to just cut something off because it sticks out

I dunno what they are.. but I have them on my 2005 sedan without aero.. I agree, they do kind of look out of place.. I'm guessing it has something to do with aerodynamics.. no idea how much of a difference it really could make though..

You get the prize

A mini air dam infront of the wheel.

It's an underbody diffuser. Rear underbody diffusers are installed in the G35 sedans with rear spoilers. They are designed to improve airflow under the car giving it better aerodynamics, a lowered coefficient of drag from 0.27 Cd to just 0.26 Cd (Coupe = 0.28 Cd with Spoilers), greater fuel economy, and less aerodynamic lift at higher speeds.

This is very interesting. This just happens to be the SAME photo that is on ebay. Some guy is selling these for a $50 min bid.

These are not the underbody diffusers that are part of the Aero Package. I recently
installed the diffusers I purchased from everythingg35. They are more like wings
that cover up the lower arms. Sorry I don't have a picture right now, but they install
over the two black bolts you see in the original picture.

I don't have the aero package and these were already on my sedan.

As to whether you can cut these off, looks like you can unbolt them.

Yeah i borrowed the ebay photo because i was first confused as to what the underbody diffusers were. The plastic part sticking out that's circled in red is not the underbody diffuser the diffusers are behind it. I guess no one really knows what that is.

It's where the "CONE OF SILENCE" bolts up when you run in stealth mode.

That is not the diffuser from the aero pkg. The aero diffusers which come with the aero pkg are on the inboard side of the tires and they cover the suspension. Every G sedan should have the little flaps on the pictures. It is another aerodynamic device to decrease drag from the tires. Most European cars and Honda have them. Check out the BMW and Honda S2000.

This piece is listed as the center mud guard rear.

From an engineering perspective, it seems to be a underbody strengthening piece designed to keep the plastic bottom run chanel in tackt in case of a offset front end collision. If the underbody run channel (that black plastic piece that goes from the front wheel to the rear wheel) gets twisted upwards during a crash, it would hinder the opening of the doors and therefore cause a "poor" or "Marginal" crash rating. I helped design something similar on another vehicle line for that same purpose.
