G35 vs. Maxima

Re: G35 vs. Maxima
OK. I went through the same thinking. Here's my 2 cents.
My eye was on the G35 for a year, waiting for the 6MT sedan (though I really wanted a coupe but couldn't stuff my teenage son into the back seat). I had had a nice sedate G20 5 spd manual that I loved and was in great shape. While waiting to test drive a 6MT G35 sedan, the 2004 Maxima came out and I saw it at the car show in late winter. The front grill was a big gross out, but other than that the styling was a refreshing change for Maxima. I was impressed by the list of standard features and options and the apparent value for the money. So I went and test drove a new Maxima manual. How many ways can you say "torque steer"? The steering and handling did not compare to the G35. Case closed for me.
So if you appreciate a driver's car, I don't think you'll go for the Maxima. Besides, the price difference isn't that much and the G35 definitely has a more luxurious look/feel inside and out. And it's just plain prettier!

Re: G35 vs. Maxima
If you mean the New Max then I would definitely say NO!! I have looked at them very closely in 4 different colors and I just don't like the look at all. I really wasn't impressed with the interior that some are raving about either. Never mind the torque steer.
This is not because I own a G35. I went looking to see if the Max might be my next car a year or three down the line. It most definitely will Not be! I understand that styling is subjective, but to me the new Max is one of the most hideous cars out there. I would Much sooner buy a Cadillac CTS than the new Max (but only in Burgundy). The CTS was my former "Butt Ugly $30,000-$35,000 Car" award winner.
But to each his own. If you like it, buy it and enjoy the Heck out of it!

Re: G35 vs. Maxima
But even then.. the CTS is a RWD sport-tuned performance vehicle that can play in the same pen as the G35 and 330i. The Maxima, with all it's luxury features, seems more along the lines of a TL or Accord or Altima or I35 -- plenty of pampering and power, but the sporty attitude is missing.
If you're concerned with a RWD platform, powerful V6, and a suspension worthy of the name "sport sedan," then the Maxima is not for you. If you want a near-luxury car with a bargain price and don't care about carving canyon roads, then the Maxima is great.

Re: G35 vs. Maxima
The max is nice dude, but lacks much from the balanced handling of the G's. Front drive, and it's corresponding weight distribution, just won't cut it. The max by comparison feels and drives nose heavy.
I loved my 2k2 Max, but my G's are so much better.

Maximas I've owned and driven
1985
1991
1993 SE
1994 SE
2000 SE
out of all of them my favorite was the 2000 SE. I was due for a new one in Dec or Jan but got a look at both the 2004 Max & the 2003.5 G35c and picked the G35c. After driving the coupe for 2 months I know I made the right choice. After all is said and done I'm still with NISSAN
Gotta remember to keep the rubber side DOWN

I finally saw the new Maxima up close the other day. What I liked was that the shape of its body is very similar to that of the G35. What I didn't like was the treatment to the front and rear. That rear is just plain ugly. Kinda reminds me of the Saturn.

I like the rear of the Max, in fact I find that to be the best styled area on the car...besides I like the rear of the new Saturn as well... go figure.
