why does auto tranny suck so much
why does auto tranny suck so much
what is the deal with flooring it from 20 and wanting the car in first gear.. when the car is in D this tranny thinks it needs to go into 3rd, 2nd, then first why? cant it just jump into first like everyother tranny i have delt with!!
the downshift delay is SO SLOW is there a TSB for me to get a new TCM or somthing?

my i30 did that.. mash the pedal really really fast and it will go to 1st. if you quickly press the pedal but not to the floor or if you gradually step on the pedal it'll only come down one gear.
For a 'rigged' system, this is one of the better auto trannies I have driven. From my limited experience, she shifts fairly aggressively. I guess it just depends on what you're used to eh? =]

Since the transmission is adaptive, either you or your wife has been poosayfooting your car around. Drive the $hit out of it for a while and it will shift more aggresively. This 5at is one of the nicer trannies out there.

No it's not as good as a clutch, it's better. It all depends on the OWNERs perspective.
This auto is one of the best I've driven, but I'm not 'boy racer' either. I can hold gears and shift through corners and move through traffic just as well as a manual can, my shifts are just a blink slower UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS.
If you go through life speed-shifting no matter what you're doing then of course there's a huge difference. In the normal day-to-day I'll keep my slushbox, thanks very much.
The auto tranny is one of the best out there. The tranny with the highest propensisty for failure is the 6MT. Real men don't need to drive a MT to be cool. Our Dongs aren't so small we care what people who promulgate what is acceptable out of thier a$$ think. As long as I can hold a gear it's all the control I need. If you need to feel your left leg being involved to have control thats fine just get off your horse and stop telling me what i need to be in a sports car. When the m5 doesn't even come with a manual I wonder what your justification will be for BMW to do such a thing to you need to have an MT to be cool lightweights.
well my the car is my moms and i just drive it around on the weekends or whenever i go out. im just used to my I30 tranny. and that bitch will SLAM into gear at 25 and spin the front tires, there will really be a chirp and will send the needle soaring. i think the I30 tranny is a little more fun, its just missing a gear. but i guess if my mom wasnt driving the car it would shift directly and more to my taste.

I'm driving an '05 5AT while my '04 6MT is in the shop for some rattles. Here's my take:
I didn't buy a 6MT because I needed to prove anything or to satisfy some sort of macho ego. I bought a 6MT (my second) because I like the extra interaction with the car. There's something to be said about being in complete control of your shift points and feeling the mechanical workings of the car. I guess I also chose a 6MT because I had an S2000 a few years ago and wanted to keep some of that fun factor.
Of course you are in control of your shift points if you use the 5AT in manumatic mode. However, it's not quite the same. The 5AT still masks some of the feel that you get with a 6MT. I wouldn't doubt that a 5AT in manumatic mode is probably faster shifting than the average 6MT but a good 6MT driver can shift very fast.
I'll say one thing though: I am thoroughly enjoying the '05 5AT loaner that I have. It is really nice to be able to just cruise around town without having to shift. I've mainly been driving it in auto mode and it moves really well without much fuss. The throttle, and brakes, seem a bit touchy though compared to my '04 6MT. I've noticed that I've been getting a little nauseous, from the lunging under accerlation and diving under braking, after driving the loaner.
The 5AT seems to be geared for a little more low-end grunt where my 6MT seems like it has to rev more to get going fast. Maybe it just seems like that since my 6MT has the Z-tube and Stillen airbox which makes it run louder and gives the impression the engine is working harder. Or maybe the Z-tube and Stillen airbox has taken away a bit of low-end torque.
