$25200 for Used '04 6MT Sedan?

2004 G35 6MT Sedan
Premium package
Splash Guards
24.9k miles

$25,200 +$170 "fees" + tax/title
=$27,000 out-the-door

The miles are a little high, but this is the only used 6MT I can find so they are pretty rare.

I am debating on whether I should buy this car or a new '05 6MT (out-the-door for $35,200 with premium package, aero, and sat radio).

Is this a good deal?

I wouldn't get it. Too many miles for a 1 year old car. Get the 05. You'll be much happier.

test drive both, hard.............don't worry about riding the 05 hard, that's why they're called test drives.......i couldn't feel the extra ponies when i test drove the 05 6sp sedan, granted i had the bolt-ons, still i expected to feel them extra 38hp.........if they are firm on the 04 price, i'd just walk out and wait.......not too many people want manual sedans, except folks like us of course....good luck

FYI: I just bought a 2003 G35 6MT Sedan with 12K mi for $23750. The out of door price is $25900. The car is in perfert condition with 17" rims and sunroof. However, it doesn't have the premium package though. Hope it helps.

A little more info on the car...

2004
Black on black 6MT Sedan
Premium package, splash guards

Their sticker: $26,995
KBB: $27,690 (retail value, excellant condition)
KBB: $25,000 (private party, excellant condition)

My offer: $25,000
Their counter: $25,200 (firm)

Originally purchased October 2003, so the mileage over 18 months is not really too high. I was told it was an older couple trade-in on an Audi (tired of driving a stick).

Considering I cannot find another used 6MT in a 200 mile radius, what do you think?

I'm an outside salesman and I put 20K miles/year (or more) on my cars. Sure the mileage is high, but keep in mind that in order to get that many miles on a car, you're doing a lot of highway driving. Those are considered "easy" miles. How long are you planning on keeping the car? Even with 25K miles, she'll still EASILY get to 150K miles with limited reliability worries. That means you'll still have 125K miles of solid life left in her. If you only put 15K miles/year on your cars, you'll have over 8 years of enjoyment.

If the car is in good physical condition and you have proof that she was properly maintained, it's not a bad buy. That's TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS lower than a 2005. Sure you can factor depreciation into the equation, but not that much. If my company didn't kick in the money they do (car allowance), I would do exactly what you're considering. Buy a one (model)year old car in spotless condition and keep it for 5-6 years. Once a car gets beyond 3 years old, it isn't going to make much difference whether it has 40K or 70K miles. You'll be ready for a new car in a few more years anyway.

I don't factor in mileage too much. It's a depreciating asset to begin with, so I just drive the heck out of them for as long as I enjoy driving them. Ten thousand bucks is a lot of money, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better car for $25K than a 2004 G35. Good luck!

Seems like a good deal. You'll pay another 10 grand for an '05.

Two weeks ago I just bought a leftover 2004, new, 6MT with navi and prem for 28.5k, plus TTL. Is the car certified? You're right in 6MT's are rare. That can work for you if you're patient. My car was on the lot since October and they were anxious to blow it out. I am glad I got the 6MT as I was looking to but a 2004 used 5AT for 22k.

I agree with klg35, test drive them both. I drove a leftover 04 6MT with premium and aero, then a week later drove an 05 6MT with the same equipment, and really liked the 05 better. To me, the 05 was both smoother and quieter, and had a better exhaust note than the 04, which made the decision for me. I was willing to pay extra for this. But the difference was about $4K, not $10K. Didn’t really notice the extra hp, by the way. The extra weight gain between the 04 & 05 probably soaks up most of this.

With the 2004, I can put down $2000 less and have the same payment, but pay it off a year sooner (hard to argue with that). Bottom line, the '05 will cost me $8000 more. Not sure the revamped interior, extra hp, and new exterior lines are worth 8 grand to me.

This dealer is a couple hundred miles away, so I will head up on Monday and take a test drive. Carfax report is clean; one owner; trade-in on a new car. If everything checks out OK, I may pull the trigger.

I've already driven an '05 6MT, so I will have all of the information I need.

I went ahead and got the '04. Turns out, it had brand new tires and satellite radio which I was not expecting. Zero dings. Excellent condition. Spoiler goes on Monday!
