2nd set of brakes with only 27,000 miles

Well my dashboard is glowing again, letting me know its time for brakes again. Didnt even have the car for 2 years and already on my second brake job. I was trying to hold off until I was close to the 34, 000 miles, so I would be close to the warranty, and still have a fresh pair of pads to last me a while.....but it looks like I will need another brake job or 2 before my lease is up.

Anyway, just checking to see if anyone else has been getting their brakes serviced as frequently as I. I'm well aware of the brake issue, but, is this an issue for the 05' or has this issue been resolved?

It is suppose to be resolved, but I don't know if they have been around long enough to tell for sure.

Does the warranty cover that?

I ahae 13600 miles on my G sedan and the brakes are still fine. Are you a very aggressive driver, IE: one that races to a light only to hit the brakes?

Dazzo, I hear you! I’m at 25K and I think I’ll be replacing my brakes for a second time pretty soon. I was told that Infiniti is on their third generation replacement pads. The first time I had my pads replaced under warranty they used the first generation replacement pads (personally I think the original pads were better than the replacements). I’m hoping that by this third generation the pads have gotten better and will last longer. We’ll see, I’m still going aftermarket once the warranty expires.

Oh yea...I forgot to mention that the first time I had my brakes serviced the indicator lights never went on, just heard the grinding. So my first brake job consisted of changing all 4 brake pads and 2 rotors.

G35sedanman : I dont really race the lights, guess it just might be that NY bumper to bumper traffic, OK...maybe a light or two, But who doesn't love hearing the sound of a pop charger on those cold morning days.

Maller : I believe all 03' and 04's G35's are covered for all brake services for 36,000 miles or 36 months, whichever comes first. But follow-up on the 04' just to make sure.

They change the rotors regardless of the pads being worn down to grinding, mine were just under 3mm (2.99 or something) and they replaced the rotors! They also told me the replacements were the same pad, that is stupid! If I knew for sure the brake wear issue was solved, I would consider trading in for an '05................
And G35sedanman, it has nothing to do with that, I don't race up to lights either. I always have gotten at least 40k out of brakes, with the same driving habits I have. How many of those 13600 miles are highway miles, and have yopu actually examined your brakes? Mine seemed fine, but when I took it in for the 15k service, they replaced them!

I brought this issue up with my dealer's service manager before I bought my '05 sedan. He was forthright about how serious and widespread the problem was with the earlier sedans and non-Brembo coupes. He confirmed the '05 brakes being completely redesigned, and while he couldn't say for sure this work was targeted specifically at killing this problem, he felt it was. He said he'd only had one '05 sedan or coupe come in with any miles on it. That car showed 80 percent-plus pad life at 7500 miles.

Personally, I see two positives regarding the '05 brakes and this problem: One, the dusting is miniscule, a good sign that the pads aren't grinding themselves into oblivion at every stop; and two, Infiniti got its butt in a serious sling with the earlier brakes and found itself staring at a lot of unhappy customers, the induction of a very costly hidden brake warranty program and at least one major lawsuit. Sadly, a pack of lawyers is one of the very few things that can scare a large multinational corporation into fixing an obvious, widespread, embarrassing problem such as this.

When I first read about the '03-'04 brake problem on this forum and how dealer advisors were telling people, "Hey, you've got performance brakes on that car. They're supposed to wear out at 10K miles," I shook my head in bewilderment. Utter, total BS. Car and Driver just did a long-term wrapup of a Porsche 911, and they indicated the front and rear pads would go 90K-plus miles before wearing out. And the thing had run track sessions. (They also raved about the stoutness of the clutch, which they felt would go forever despite being abused during zero to 60 and quarter-mile testing. Are you listening, Nissan? Do not tell me my clutch is supposed to wear out at 30K miles because it's in a "performance" car. Really, the Japanese are incredibly talented engineers, but dropping the ball on something as basic as brake pads and a friction disc is appalling. I won't even go into the weak-sister 6MT transmission.)

To Infiniti USA and Mr. Service Advisor, listen up: The G35 ain't no 911.

Nonetheless, I love my car!

I have had to replace my pads every 15K miles, rotors every 30K miles.
This is normal for the 2003s?

I think Infiniti is nuts to not make good on the brake wear issue, I bet there are many people who will not buy another Infiniti product because of the brake wear issue.

You must have mostly highway miles on your car, no other way would you have 30k on those brakes!
