Just picked up my G-great experience

I dealt with a guy named Jamie from Douglas Infiniti in Summit NJ and I gotta say this was the best experience I ever had with a dealership and a salesman in the 30 yrs of me getting new cars. Jamie actually picked me up at my house to get the car to save me cab fare. No hassle or games with price and everybody I met was professional. Anyhow on to the car.

I got Diamond Graphite with a graphite interior and was a little surprised that the headliner and pillars were creamish in color which I initially thought was cheap looking-but I am slowly changing my mind. I set the nav for home and followed "her" perfect direction. Never had a nav before but I really like the system. The Bose actually sounded pretty good. The clutch took about 10 minutes to get used and that's it. The only thing I really didn't like was going into second which seemed to cause the car to jump as it was somewhat abrupt just like my 95 540i 6 spd which I was hoping I would not get the same 2nd gear thing in my new car. 3rd and 4th were normal. I couldn't figure out how to get the car into reverse til I saw that you need to press down on the gearshift first. I got XM and didn't know about the 3 mo. trial period and the free activation til I saw the window sticker and had to call XM back. I didn't like the fact that the center arm rest didn't move forward as I like to keep my seat close to the wheel and my arm misses the arm rest as a result. I gather the arm rest doesn't move.

I can't figure out how to get the names of the songs on XM as I hit "RPT" and nothing happened. I better read the manual.

I resisted the temptation to give her the gas and I sense this car can really move in a very smooth fashion. Looking forward to many trouble free, fun miles. Great car!!!!!!

That's good when you hear of a purchasing experience that went well. You usually only hear the horror stories.

I think the cream headliner looks good IMO and was never a factor; I did find it strange at first though too.

Good luck and happy motoring!

Happy trails, Corgi. I'm glad you finally got the car.

Post some photos when you get a chance. All G35s are unique in my eyes.

900 over invoice. Plus Douglas Infiniti has only a $98 "doc fee" which is rather low compared with the typical $199 and $299 charges. So I guess it comes out the same as someone who paid 700 over invoice and forked over a $299 doc fee.

I glad you are enjoying it. The arm rest does not move forward, which would be nice.

"I couldn't figure out how to get the car into reverse til I saw that you need to press down on the gearshift first."-When I took a Saab out for a test drive in 1977, they forgot to tell me the trick of getting it in reverse, so I had to make strange turns to get back- Pretty embarrassing! (I ended up buying it anyway).

No satellite radio in mine, so I can't help with that problem.

I've had very good experiences with Douglas also-see my other posts for details.

Congratulations!!

Man.... I had a horrible experience at infiniti.. I dealt with a lady (I forgot here name). I needed a Black on Black 6mt(and was not able to to find one with any dealers around NJ) and she didnt have one at the dealership, but she assured me on getting the car next day from another dealership. I made a dumb mistake of signing the papers to get the 1.9/2.9% finance and also gave 500$(used my credit card) as holding fee(I was pretty confident on getting the car the next day). I called up the next day to get the vin to added to my insurance and found out that she was not in. I asked the other sales rep to get me the vin no to which he said that he does not have access to her records/details. And you the what.. he hung up on me.... I tried calling several time and every time I was redirected to her voicemail or someone hangs on on me.. I called up the next day and asked her for explanations and she told me that they were unable to get the car and she offered me an automatic diamond graphite.. I refused and called off the deal.
I called up later to get my 500 refunded, but I always reached her voicemail.
Finally I ended up with Flemington infiniti, but I was refused 2.9% apr since douglas had messed up my record with infiniti finance. I am now holding 5.9% apr with a bank.
Douglas sucks..

^^That is too bad. It sounds very, very unusual for Douglas. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. You should probably let the manager or owner know so they can look into it.

Enjoy your car, though!

Andy,

I have been following your posts and know you've enjoyed your experiences at Douglas. Do you know how their service and customer consideration is when comes to working on cars that were not originally puchased from them? for things like loaner and "good-will" warranty work, etc?

FYI: I bought my x from Lynnes and live in W.O.

It's a wide-open question so thanks in advance!

I agree with Andy77 about Douglas as my experience there was the best buying experience I had in over 30 yrs of new car buying. With any place there will be some bad apples and managment need to know about negative experiences. In my short experience with Douglas I think that mgmt would bend over backwards to see that you are satisfied.

Fullofivy,

I'm afraid I don't know the answer directly, as my three Infiniti purchases since 1991 were all from them. I have not heard them say anything to someone else in the service or sales area that would make me think they would treat someone who bought elsewhere worse. I've had conversations with a number of sales people over the years and they never mentioned anything about this, but I don't think I asked directly. The Saab dealer I bought from in Brooklyn (25 years ago) was not nice to service customers who bought elsewhere, but I think (hope) the industry has changed.

They always give me loaners, but I can't always get them for my first choice day-I might have to wait a few days or a week for a routine service with a loaner. I get loaners for oil changes as well. I am sure you would get one for a scheduled service.

Despite their good service and reasonable prices I am sure they make a profit in the service dept which would encourage them to treat you well. Good service might also encourage you to buy your next car from them, so that would be further incentive.

I suppose the sales staff you didn't buy from would not go way out of the way to help you with the service department, as they have for me on one or two occasions--but they might. They also might recognize a future customer.

You could just try your next routine service there and see what happens.

I live in S.O. and Infiniti has their mailing set by ZIP and proximity and despite my purchases from Douglas, whenever Infiniti National sends me information, it tells me to contact Lynne's (since 1991)! I do get service reminders from Douglas, though.

How has the Lynne's Infiniti service been? Where you the one who said it was good a few months ago or was it someone else/ We found their Subaru service OK, not great.

See you around the streets!

Andy,

Thanks for your feedback.

It wasn't me who commented about Lynnes Subaru. I had my first oil change at Lynnes Infiniti on a Saturday. It was uneventful and took about an hour, which is pretty good. Lynnes' Service is open on Saturdays mainly for oil changes and the likes. The neighborhood that Lynnes is in is not the greatest and they have a puny parking lot. I have two more courtesy oil changes from them. After that, I think I will check out Douglas as another possible source.

Thanks neighbor!

Keep us all posted on the service. Douglas is not open on Saturday for service or parts (the showroom is, of course), unless things have changed.

Enjoy it!
