05AT vs 036MT
90% of the time the 5AT wins. The raping is not so bad and the launch is not that easy for the manuals. When they get it right the difference could be significant. From a roll Z's can be had if the variables play your way. Assuming you know what'll happen every time is fools gold.

Poor chose of words. It's just about the same car. They are both G35's after all.
^^^Nice AVATAR!!!!

The 05' will win for sure, no questions asked. After two years of driving and abusing that 03' 6mt it is bound to lose a few significant ponies. After all, the 05' sedans are equipped with 280hp and come lighter then the coupes. Launching and perfect shifts are just not an issue for AT as well. The 05' AT has my vote.

LOL The 5AT would win, in most cases in any race with any years, coupe or sedan based on launching issues and the traction problem all the power creates. BUT a 2003 6MT which is lighter than the 05 comprable car should be able to get to a 13.9 if launched correctly or maybe lucklily...there have been no such reports that a 13 anything has been had by any AT that was stock in 05 or any year.
If the 5AT has the Stillen valve body upgrade installed (like I'm using), the 6MT will never get a chance to walk away from it. It's the best $700 you can spend on your tranny if you opted for the 5AT because you're a lazy-*** driver like me...
I can't imagine the valvebody (VB) does much for these cars in the 1/4 mile. I find that my 5AT shifts just as quickly as my old 94 Z28 and the tranny in the Z is considered one of the best and quickest shifting autos on the market. All the VB does is raise the line pressure to increase shift firmness. I had a $40 B&M "shift improver" in my 94 Z28 which dramatically increased shift firmness by raising the line pressure. In the 1/4 mile, there was absolutely no change. What the 5AT sorely lacks is the ability to jump off the line hard and the VB isn't going to help that. Don't get me wrong, it's not weak off the line, but the Nissan Nanny in the ECU really keeps the launch capability of the car toned down.
As for the 05 5AT vs 03 6MT, I'll still stand by my opinion that all the 03/04 G "260hp" sedans were ALL making closer to 275-280hp to begin with and that the 05 5ATs have just been rerated to more accurately reflect their real power. For those that doubt this, how can you explain the following:
1) Stock for stock, mod for mod, the 260hp 03/04 sedans typically post quicker ETs and faster trap speeds than the 280hp coupes. I know the coupe weighs 70lbs, but it is rated at 20hp more which should give it some advantage even though it has more weight. Look at all the sedans running 14.2-14.4@96mph+ that are stock or have minimal mods. I'm convinced my sedan can run 14.3s@98mph in cooler weather and I've only got one mod that supposedly doesn't add any power.
2) Dynos. Look at the dynos of the 5AT 280hp coupes vs the 260hp sedans. It's less than a 5whp difference. The 6MTs sedans match the power of the 6MT coupes.
IMO, Nissan did their infamous funny HP math with the 03/04 sedans so that the coupe owners would feel like they were getting a more powerful car since it is a coupe and should have a more sporting nature.
