Would it be okay to have it set to 5,800 during my break-in period?
and what is up with the break-in period? I think it should be eliminated. It's 2005 for God's sake no break-in period for cars should be needed
What I'd like to see is for Infiniti to take this thing a little further, and make the feature an adjustable "governor", where I can dial the rev limiter down to, like 4,000 RPM when others are driving it (kid going to the prom, valet at the casino, etc., etc.). Now THAT would really be appreciated.

Like someone already mentioned...in case you've missed that post:

The Shift Indicator light is simply a reminder...it does absolutely NOTHING to the engine (rev limit, speed governor, etc.).

Although it can be useful for those who haven't quite gotten the "shift by feel/sound" down...it is, overall, a gimmick. But again, it is quite useful in those situations where you're hauling a$$ and would rather concentrate on the road ahead than looking down at your tach.

My suggestion would be to set it slightly BEFORE redline...that way, by the time your peripheral vision sees the blinking, you have enough time to shift before actually going past redline.

^-^ Drive safe & Enjoy the Ride!!!

Was this shift light introduced on the 2005 6MT model? I just bought a used '04 sedan, but I didn't get the owner's manual.

Same question!!

I recently bought '04 Coupe, and looked for it, read the whole manual and didn't find it. Is it only on '05s?? I want it !!!!!

I beg to differ, I have noticed that by switching the up-shift indicator from 4000 to 5800 and vise-versa it appears that the car's demeanor changes with regards to torque. For example, setting it up to 4000 the car feels that it has more torque compared to me setting it up to 5800.
This is based only on my subjective experience.

The shift light indicator is not a gimmick if you are into road racing or auto-x where you generally don't want to take your eyes off the road.

Sorry to say but that's all in your head buddy. The shift light IS just a reminder and has no bearing on the operation of your engine whatsoever.

Is your car easier to turn when you have the turn signal on too?
