Another Oddity With My Sedan

After coming home after going through this:

https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sedan-v35-2003-06/55599-damaged-rim-prophecy-fulfilled.html

I noticed something else.

After I was done being butt-rammed by Discount Tire, I was rolling my dorked up wheel out to my truck I noticed that they used clamp weights on the edge of the wheel rather than the stick-on weights I THOUGHT I had on all my wheels.

I asked the manager why they would put a clamp-on weight on a wheel that originally had stick-on weights and he said 'they wouldn't.' I said 'they did this time.'

When I got home I was pulling the wheel out of the back of my truck and I noticed a place along the edge where the old clamp-on weight had been. I thought to myself 'I'm going nuts' and pulled the G out to inspect all the other wheels.

Both fronts had stick-ons, as did the full size spare (matching aluminum wheel) I had on the right rear... The rear I took in for repair had clamp-ons, and the left rear has no stick-ons visible so I'm assuming it has clamp-ons like the other rear wheel has. I didn't roll under the car to verify this, but it definitely doesn't have stick-ons.

If the count is as I suspect:

Three wheels (including spare) have stick-ons
Two wheels have clamp-ons (one verified, one suspect)

Why would Infiniti do this? Seems kinda hokey to me.

GeeWillikers,

All four wheels on my 'x' has adhesive weights. Wonder if the dealer may have done some wheel swapping on yours. Personally, I prefer the adhesive type as it doesn't scratch up the clear coats and leaves a 'clean' look, but I have heard that they may fall off. I guess clamp-on ones can fall off too. My $0.02.

Kinda off topic but just to warn you, be careful if you're going to remove and replace those clamped-on wheel weights. I took my car to this ignorant shop once to install some tires on my old car and they freakin used the clamped on wheel weights on my beloved lightweight wheels. My wheels were designed to have the stick on weights and thats what they had on before. To make things worse, I noticed that 3 out of the 4 wheels were scratched all the way around the lip. I took it back to the shop and they ****ed it even more by putting DEEP scratches right down to the metal.

UGGH it was a horrible day. So please guys... tell the shop what you specifically want cuz sometimes they don't have any common sense.....[/rant]

When I'm done with this fiasco, I'll have 4 with stick-ons and 1 with clamp-ons - it just seemed weird is all. I was surprised that ANY Infiniti wheel would have the clamp-ons.

Clamp ons on the outside of the wheel with ruin the wheel. Get them off and have the stick ons applied.
All my Nissans and Infinitis were done this way. Never a clamp on on the outside.

The clamp-ons on my wheels are on the inside edge, not the face.

At least there's that.

My clamp-ons are located on the inside as well. I would assume that the stickons are more apt to spin off vs the clampons?????

In years past, when we balanced tires and wheels we split the required weight half inside and half outside. This was for dynamic balance as well as static balance considerations.
