Want an 05, wish me luck

Got rid of a 3 year old Avalanche at the end of march. Got a new 04 g 5AT with 20 miles. It's been 10 weeks now, and I have almost 6k on it. I even let the wife borrow it for a weekend trip a few weeks ago.

Guess what happened last friday night? She told me that she wants a g, just like mine. The problem is, her current ride is an 04 Pacifica, and the ****** thing's depreciating faster than our payments can keep up. The effect is we're about 10k upside down. Plus, she doesn't want to get rid of it, mainly because we would have nothing to carry large items when needed.

So she told me that we should look at getting another 3, as a THIRD vehicle. I make good money, but not that much. I told her that if she really wanted a new g, we could try to sell her car private party, she could have mine, and I would order the one I *really* wanted, rather than the one I could get a good deal on.

The Pacifica is now up for sale on autotrader, and we're asking for a little more than we owe. The thing has literally every option available on the model, except for a roof rack and built-in bluetooth. It's got navi, 6disc dvd/lcd. Hell, it's even seat heaters in the middle row captains chairs. Anyway, I've only been able to find one comparable model in all of Birmingham, and that dealership is asking around 4k less than we are.

The point is, I really, REALLY want a different G, so please everybody cross his fingers and hope that some dumb shmuck will buy my too-expensive pacifica

Hope everything works out for you!! I know you would love the 05's ... I just got mine a couple weeks ago and I am loving it. Maybe spring for the 6MT too?

I specifically want an 05 6MT, which, correct me if I'm wrong, will automatically include the 8" twin spokes and the sports-suspension. Additionally, I want everything I already have on my 04 ( aero, premium package C ).

That should be it. Although I can't make up my mind on color.

You are correct about the wheels, they are the 18" version (I love those things too!). The sport package is also standard on the 6MT.

I also wanted the Premium C package on my G. Sadly, only Premium Package A is offered. I never got a straight answer from my dealer as to why, but I believe it's because of the clutch. The intelligent key may be viewed as a "hazard" if the car was able to be started without the clutch being depressed.

As far as the full size spare, I am confused why this is not even an option to get. The only things I could think of would be the 18" wheel not fitting in the spot for it in the trunk. Or that Infiniti figured those buying the 6MT would not want the extra weight the full size wheel would put on the car.

It's sort of a give and take I guess, but overall I still decided to go with the 6MT!!

Good luck with selling the Pacifica bro. I hope it works out and that you get the G you really want.

Now taking donations

Here's an update. We've changed our minds on what we want several times since the thread started. I mentioned, in another post, that I got my car at a drastic discount because it had been on the dealer's lot for quite a while. We went back to the same dealership on Monday, so I could actually test-drive a stick(had to settle for a coupe, no 6MT sedans in stock). It turned out that they had a duplicate of my car, down to the dealer-installed options, except that it was Brilliant Silver rather than DG. It was even an 04.

We got the bright idea that because they had had so much trouble moving the car I eventually bought, that they were likely having similar problems with this 04. We got the same salesman that helped the deal before work out some numbers, and they weren't even close. Not only did they refuse to move off the sticker price by more than a couple-hundred dollars, they claimed that the 04 was not eligible for the 2.9% financing rate.

We figured that we could settle for a used 03/04 6MT, though I *really* wanted an 05. Oh well. I did a search on Autotrader, and there was only a SINGLE used 6MT within a 300 mile radius. Although I would love a trip to the beach(panama city), that's just too far to drive. Not to mention that it doesn't have seat heaters, and other options I want.

So I called around to the other two dealers in northern Alabama. One is 80 miles away, and the other is 110. The dealer in Huntsville ( 110 ) doesn't have any 6MT sedans in stock. The other dealer, in Montgomery, presently has two on the lot. One has the options I want, except for the aero package, but has the Wheat interior, which IMHO is about the tackiest thing I've seen since my parent's old early eighties cutlass. The other 6MT has the aero, and the Stone interior, but no premium. Bother.

The salesman I was working with on the phone called me back about an hour later. He said that he had located an 05 6MT, with Aero, Premium, Stone interior, and the trunk mat/spacer, which is *exactly* what I asked for. I had actually requested either the Black or the Ivory; the garnett not being available with the Stone interior.

Anyway, he said that he can have the car on the lot in 2 to 3 days. He did not mention however where the car is presently located. So now I have to decide just how serious I am about getting rid of the Pacifica. At the minimum, I need to take it down to Montgomery(80 miles) just to have the used car manager appraise it. After that, we can work the numbers.

So there it sits. I ultimately have to decide what I want to do. I can choose to roll-in the negative equity of the Pacifica into the financing of the new g, and put my payments into the 800+ range for 60 months. Or I can get the g, and wait to sell the Pacifica private party; paying two payments a month in the meantime, and supposing I am approved for a THIRD car lone. The final option is to forget about it. We have the pacifica. It has it's uses. And it's a very nice ride.

You know what the agonizing thing is? Intellectually I *know* the right choice is to stick with the current ride. But, in this case, my heart/other part of body are overriding my brain, and at this point, I don't think I care

So please tell me something. If I open a paypal account, will anybody make donations? For a g brother? C'mon. You know you want to. You'd want somebody to help you out, wouldn't you? Wouldn't you?

I was getting ready to scratch you a check, but then read your comment about the Wheat interior. Sorry, but I'm going to hold onto my "tacky 80s Cutlass" money.

I'd spot you the cash but I'd be afraid you'd change your mind in 10 months, go upside down on the G and end up begging for cash on bmwdriver.com. All things considered, I'm doing you a favor.

Ok. This is the wife and those last two comments were great! LOL!
That interior is an acquired taste - sorry but it is.
As for doing a favor - you're prolly right. This car is some kind of cult or something.

Ok. This is the husband. I don't know if that's a good sign or not; the wife actually posting on this forum or not I mean.

I guess my incessant droning about the g, and this forum, is starting to pay off.

What do you mean, some kind of cult? We're not a cult. Just because we have meetings, speak our own language, and believe that BMW owners are deluded agents of the devil?

May I suggest for your wife a lovely plenum spacer or perhaps one of these delightful coupe midpipes. Right over here we have the double DIN radio retrofit. There's something for everyone!!!

I actually drove the Pearl with Wheat a few hours ago. I'm afraid I was wrong, and I have changed my opinion on the Wheat interior. It's not tacky, it's an acquired taste, the kind requiring the insertion of a spoon to the rear of the throat.

Ok, now *that* was tacky. In all seriousness, the Wheat is actually quite pleasing. I'd still prefer the stone, but I now consider the Wheat to be more than acceptable.

I guess I should get my own login at some point, huh? Anyway, I want to clarify the comment about the interior. There IS a difference in the interior color commented on between the '04 and the '05. I will admit that the wheat interior on the '05 is SO much better than the similar color for the '04 year. It's still an acquired taste though

Here's to hoping I get to steal the G from the hubby soon!
