Unbelievable - How much will this cost me?

Hard to say... From the pics it looks like you would need a new taillight, body work on the rear quarter panel, possible body work on the bumper (looks like it got the edges of the bumper alittle??), new gas door, repaint bumper and quarter panel, and hopefully no damage to the gas take fill tube (unlikely). My guess would be $1600 - $1800.
This is just a guess based on other quotes I've seen for similar damage. I hope it's less but that's just my guess.
Good Luck and Sorry to see your G in that shape. Get her fixed, but be sure to get if fixed RIGHT!

Ouch.
What needs to be done:
1) Repair the panel. They may be able to pull a lot of that out and then go to town with the Bondo Or they may have to replace the panel.
2) Replace the rear tail light
3) Repaint the panel, repaint the upper rail all the way to where it meets the front fender.
4) Repaint the bumper
5) Blend the paint from the panel into the rear passenger door.
I'd say this is $2500 worth of repairs at a quality shop.

Thanks for the good word guys..
I was going past a line of traffic in the fast lane on the expressway out of town and as the slower right lane stopped abrubtly.... I just think this guy pulled over without looking or misjusged or maybe he just did a cell phone veer. But since I blew by the line of traffic before i could get over and without having anything to identify the car but the headlight shape, I couldn't find the guy. I never even saw it coming. I pulled over to let trafic go by, I'm sure he saw it and got into the left lane and blew by like an ****. It was dark and late and I didn't want to get killed on the countries most dangerous hi-way so I didn't even stop ot bother with cops since I had no frikking idea who dun it.
I was hyperventilating and twitching but if you've seen the pics of my wife's car after her accident you know why I got over it quick...This was not a bad impact and I'm not surprised somthing that I thought was just a bumper bang was much more in terms of repair cost. I was surprised to see the swirls, I had no idea I hit his wheel, I thought he was further back.
..but i've already gotten someone that can sell me the tailights -THANKS X- and save me a few bucks. The bumper is slightly slightly dis-colored on the front edge but you'd never notice unless you washed the car yourself. Heat from the friction I'm sure and it's not bad. Hopefully that won't start to chip and flake but it seems in tact now.
Also the fuel door is fine. So what would just a bondo, sand, and paint job be? Cutting the panel out and replacing it would certainly be a $2000 job I've been there before...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Just curious as to why you want to pay for the work and not your insurance company? Is your record bad? Lots of claims in the past few years? I'd say explain to your insurance what happened and your reasoning to pulling over without hunting for the other car. Fill out an accident report at the police station and the insurance company should be happy and push your claim through. This is what insurance is for, whether you run over a bumper post while drinking your coffee or get T-boned by another driver.
It sounds like the bumper is fine and may only need a little buff work. The metal work is the kicker. They probably will be able to pull out the metal and refinish. I still think it will cost about $1500-1800 to do that work. The metal work alone will probably take 12-16 hours shop time or about $900.
When you do get the work done, go to a shop that does a lifetime warranty on the work (most do) and use a florescent light on the panels to verify there isn't any waveiness or paint mismatching. Your car will be harder to match than most because it's metallic silver.
