Bimmer to Infiniti Convert
Hi Folks:
I recently “upgraded” my ride from a 2003 6MT BMW 330i ZHP Sedan to a 2005 6MT Infiniti G35 Sedan. Past few weeks I have been browsing this forum for an education. This is my first post and first-time-ever mod’ing.
After reading numerous posts and based on excellent advice from informative and helpful forum members, I took the plunge and have installed the following mods on an already world-class sports-sedan. Below is a subjective and quick review of each mod.
New (quieter) Stillen Cat-Back Exhaust System:
Fit (installation) is OEM and quality/workmanship is excellent.
Initial impression: Muffler too loud. After 500 mile break-in – quieter, deeper.
Sound – sporty M3esq growl.
Sound-level (based on cars driven) – If:
05 G35 Sdn Stock = 1
03 BMW 330i Sdn ZHP = 3
04 G35 Cpe Stock = 4
04 350Z Fujitsubo Legalis-R = 4
05 G35 Sdn Stillen Cat Back = 5
04 G35 Sdn Stillen Cat Back = 8
Droning: Slight low-level hwy drone.
Dynamat on trunk-floor worked wonders for minimizing cabin noise (layman-terms 2 or 3db reduction, muffler note became less obtrusive and deeper/uniform. Even the so-so Bose sounds better).
Performance: Wohoo! Noticed decent pick @ mid 3-5K rpm range
(Runner-up: Fujitsubo Legalis-R, was too performance oriented in my research, may swap to the JDM Fuji later).
Stillen Hi-Flow CAI Box and Z-Tube combo:
Yeeha! Tremendous throttle-response gains and also smoother shifting (?).
(Runner-up: AEM CAI, filter sits low hence no-way in Monsoon Tampa)
Dynamat (trunk floor only):
Nice product – works well, easy install. Caution – it’s heavy.
LLumar PP-35 Tint (on all 5s):
Subtle reflective tint works well with Brilliant Silver exterior since it accentuates and does not diminish the stock green window tint.
So, once again – thank you all for your valuable opinions – resulting in above mods.
(Next = Pirelli Pzero Neros [personal experience from the ZHP]).
Happy and Safe Independence Day!

Primary driveability differnces between stock and now (in order).
1. Throttle Response: Quicker, smoother, more linear (fosters spirited driving).
2. Low-end torque: Idle>2nd>3rd is now less effortless (less engine push [revs] required to maintain same personal driving style).
3. 5th/Overdrive Acceleration: Wider power-band (no need to down-shift for accelartaion burst).
Note: Also, for some reason the shifting is a lot smoother now (especially 1st>2nd) - but I don't know what to attribute this to.
Superficially, the Stillen CB brings it all together with a vociferous yet civilized exhaust tone.

thanks for the pics--very nice color. i have a black g and have always gone for the dark deep colors--but that is a really nice car/color. color goes well w/ the wheels. plus--lighter color is easier to maintain/shows fewer flaws especially in direct sun. it also (along w/ white) shows the bumper openings real nice.
not too bad w/out the spoiler--though I prefer it w/ spoiler. the only negative on color I guess is paint work matching--see thread on silver g with damaged quarter panel. black is a 100% color match--anyway I ramble on............................

That's what makes frequenting this forum enjoyable - some of the post are a riot and quite witty
So now - on paper - there are suppose to be upto 334 ponies at my disposal (which I know is not worth the paper it is written on). Gotta get it dyno - anybody recommend a good place in Tampa?

not so true.
Did you know that the obsidian black paint actually has a small amount of red in the paint!?!?!?
I bought a pint of paint for painting my corner lights. When they pulled the paint code, there is a small amount of red that has to be mixed into the black paint.
The painted corner lights came out a perfect color match with the paint I purchased. I guess black isn't always black!
