Battle Of The Sedans!
Battle Of The Sedans!
Hey guys I was driving by and i saw the new Altima SE-r. They looked pretty quick. Without looking at 1/4 times, I need some opinions. Stock 05 Tiptronic G35 vs a stock 6MT Se-r Altima From a stop. I think they Altima might pull, but by how much? its has 260 vs 280, but its manuel. If anyone has input, i just wanted to know. If you guys really want you can refer to the 1/4 times to make your arguments better.
Thanks
Nick

The SE-R is lighter by about 100lbs, and has around 20ft/lbs less torque at peak....so I would guess it's a pretty close race. I give the edge to the G35 sedan here due to RWD.
It would be damn close. It all depends on whether the altima driver could launch well enough. I suspect that the HP rating might be a bit under rated. Marketing doesn't want to encroach upon the maxima's domain
Altima would definatley beat it. The SE gets 0-60 ft times in the 2.2 range. When you drive the Altima you really notice the weight difference between the two cars. The light altima feels a bit more peppy compared to the heavier G, which feels a bit more sluggish. I've also driven both and can just say the Altima felt faster.

SE-R is faster, torque steer is worse, and fit and finish is that of a 'fast altima.'
It looks better than the V6 altima inside and out, but the fit and finish isn't close to that of the G.

We did as Geewillikers did and also looked at the SE-R. It was a nice package, very roomy, and I believe the Altima is faster in a standing 1/4 mile, but at the top end the G has the thumbs up. Did not like the excessive torque steer in the SE-R.
But after driving the G sedan, it is an easy choice, much better overall handling (RWD over FWD) especially on a fast winding road. Better fit and finish and materials. The G generally was much nicer to drive and sit in. After driving the G my wife would not even consider the SE-R.

The SE-R is a cool car. It reallly more in the spirit of a Maxima than the actual Maxima is. I wouldn't have bought it since It wasn't out when I bought my G and I didn't consider Altima as a choice. After having my Taurus SHO I was done with high powered front wheel drive cars.

Just the fact that the person bought the SE-R, he lost the battle already. Why would someone consider buying SE-R for that price? Obviously they don't care about it being a luxury car. If that's the case, why not get a EVO and STI...that will blow it's doors away.
FWD + power doesn't get along. Next time you see an SE-R, ask the person how big their biceps are.
So winner goes to your G without even a race.
