2005 5AT Shifting Performance

Above all else, I am most disappointed with the shifting performance of my 2005 5AT G35 (RWD). Feels like the transmission acts like a 'misbehaved child'. The 2nd to 3rd gear shift is especially rough when between 3k-4k rpm's. Anyone else get this impression from their G? Anything I can do to improve it??

I believe people on the forum said grounding gears are the way to go. Nothing compares to a true manual and I've missed driving that from day 1 since I bought my X. But living in New York I really wanted an awd. Anyway...with that said, manumatic is alrite but there's no comparison. If you don't want to feel the rough shift, take off your foot from the gas, then shift, then gas. Besides, with manual that's what you do anyway. Or get the grounding gear. Or leave it in D.

First, I love the 5AT. What I've noticed.

Driving hard, near WOT, shifting 2-3 before redline is rough, at redline is much smoother.

Driving easy, smooth through about 4000RPM, shift 2-3 can be rougher than the rest.

No change after doing the miracle 'ECU reset.'

yeah I notice the rough shift from time to time from 2nd to 3rd on my 05x. I usually leave it in full auto. If I am going all out though i do not. So rev it to 6000 before the shift and I bet you do not feel it..

If you feel the rough shift from 2nd to 3rd in manual mode, it is because the computer thinks you are going to rev it out a little more before shifting. If you modulate the throttle to match the position when the computer shifts at 4k and shift manually at that exact throttle position, you will get a smooth shift...basically, mimic the computer and you will get smoother shifts. Its a pretty dumb tcu imho.
