Not at all. I just think the kind of responses some people have given are better suited for the off topic section where anything goes. How about I just tell him that the best way to warm up his engine is to set it in nuetral, then rev it to 8000 and let it sit there for 20 mins? Tha sounds like some good advice. What if he didnt know any better and tried it because he though this was a helpful board and his engine is toast? Think about these things. I wouldnt wanna ruin somebodys elses car no matter how "dumb" I thought the question was.

BTW GTING...how about a picture of a 2005 G35 6MT at 8000....that should settle it right?

Man, are you making an effort to be obnoxious or does it come naturally? I have exceeded 7200 exactly ONCE. I did not intend on doing it. I was not ignorantly endangering my engine. I was not deliberately running it to 8000.

So here's the situation. I can either say, "Ok, you're right, there's a fuel cutoff and I just couldn't tell the difference between 7200 and 7500", or I could go out an actually attempt to exceed 7200 again. But that would just be stupid. So, you can go ahead and continue to be an obnoxious superior know-it-all, or you can just take my word for it. But I assume that the former comes naturally, so it will be the lower effort option. So that leaves me with only one alternative: ignore your posts.

Have a nice day.

This thread sucks too many stupid posts and ignorance. AND NO YOU CANNOT GO PAST A FUEL CUT UNLESS YOU DOWNSHIFT AT A HIGH RPM "FUEL CUT" ie the ecu cuts the fuel so no you cannot go past that rpm!!! And NO the rev light has absolutely nothing to do with the fuel cut/rev limiter.

If you didn't know, most tachometers are off from what the engine speed is. They can be off by 500-700 RPMs, especially in the upper rev band.

It does make a difference. Posting incorrect info on forums needs to be corrected. If you had an 05 with 6spd it might make more difference to yourself.

That may be true when connected to an safac or dyno to get the "real" rpm but the tach on an 05 6spd will cut off at 7200 unless a high rpm downshift is made and the engine will probably blow.

Sorry, I saw 7400-7500 while accelerating in second gear (note: not downshifting)...talking to passengers while showing off...dumb move on my part, but the tach was definitely past 7200. I'm going with the tach being off a little. I believe the rev limiter is at 7200, I just saw higher numbers in the dash.

BTW, why is it called a fuel "cut-off"? It went to the limit and just stayed there (for a sec or so). It didn't even "bounce" like other limiters I've hit (rental cars are fun!). Wouldn't a cut-off kill the engine entirely, lock the tires until the clutch is pushed in, etc.?

i've definitely gone past 7200 on my 05 6mt tach. i hit the clutch little bit too fast. i guess the tach being off might be a better explaination. i believe it reached close to 8k rpm.
